Should PayPal be excepted for a high dollar site on Flippa?

I have a friend selling a site on Flippa for over $2000.

Should they accept PayPal or stick to Escrow?

They are just worried about getting scammed with a chargeback after they transfer the domain and site files.

Stick to escrow, escrow is safest if done correctly, with paypal you always have the worry that a chargeback can be made a good few week's after you have transferred over the site.

    Escrow is your best bet.

Escrow. Very risky to use Paypal for a high dollar sale.

PayPal does not protect you from a chargeback on digital goods. Unless this is something you can physically ship to the buyer, have the shipping address of the buyers, AND have proof of shipping such as a UPS tracking record, etc. PayPal will reverse charges in favor of the buyers if the buyers bank places a chargeback. Obviously a website cannot be physically shipped, so I would not do it.

Definitely Escrow unless the buyer is your neighbor and you've known him for 10 years...wait...no...still use Escrow

Flippa will soon be integrating Escrow.com services into their site as well which should be cool.

We're working on Escrow integrations - shouldn't be too far off. And I agree with the general consensus here - use Escrow.

I used Paypal for a $8.4K sale on Flippa and had no problem and would do it again.

I'd built a relationship with the purchaser and felt safe to do so. They have just as much to lose as you the vendor.

Both parties - myself and them - were known within our 30DC community - so I guess there is some 'comeback' there if one of us was a bad egg.

My experience is that a customer can not chargeback on Paypal willy nilly - you have a right to defend it.

I've had many a case of customer purchasing my discounted to $67 downloadable info product and suggesting they haven't received it.

I provide screen shots of emails showing them signed up to my customer list. Screen shots of the Aweber notification of them having become a customer etc. And any other email correspondence with their name on that proves they have the downloadable info product.

And I have NEVER had a charge back go against me - in 5 years of running my niches.

I guess because of that, I was not concerned about using Paypal. I had a fantastic email trail and assistance from others with transferring it all over - it wouldn't have been an issue. And again I wasn't worried about it to begin with.

And if Flippa are providing an even safer service - then that's even better! :-)

      Caro :-)

Glad your transaction went well, but my advice is don't ever assume you know someone online. You have no real idea who you are dealing with and it just simply isn't worth it to lose a high value site to a scammer.

As for Paypal ... you can give them all the screenshots you want, but generally, they do not support digital goods and if they choose to rule in the "buyers" favor, they will do so. If you're going to sell a high value site, at least put it on CD and snail mail a copy to the buyers. Then it is no longer a digital good.

This is common in all businesses, we need to keep our records. In most cases paypal is the best way to deal but escrow is full safe but the fees may vary, higher than paypal..

Bank transfer is the way to go. Paypal is the WORST payment processing company and doesnt just make it easy for people to get chargebacks ... they also freeze accounts at random to gain interest on your money. Stay-Away!
