Domain DNS (nameservers) Question

Hey guys

Will try to make it short.

Registered domain with brother's Namecheap account, transferred DNS nameservers to my Hostgator Hosting, redirected relevant but older domain with 301 to get some traffic to the new website (it's more or less improved old one).

Here is what I want to do next: Change DNS nameservers to point to the brothers Namecheap hosting and host it there. Of course, remove 301 redirect with Hostgator. Link back from my old site (the one been redirected while on Hostgator) pointing to the new site that been moved to be hosted at Namecheap.

Question: Will this link carry any weight in terms of SERPs?

I hope I've explained it clearly.

Cheers guys.

Are both domains on the same shared IP? If yes the link will be worth less, much less, if No it won't make a difference, in my opinion.

when the backlink will be pointing from my old website to brothers website, domains will be hosted on a completely different servers. Domains are registered with different accounts as well.

The only problem might be that brothers domain was hosted on my servers and was under 301 redirect from my website for a little while.

Hope I've made this clear this time.

      Cheers

I personally don't think it will carry any weight, no. Or if it does, it'll be tiny.

As you say, the old domain was just a 301 re-direct hence it probably has zero weight with Google (or very little weight)

Of course, over-time the old domain (which I assume you will create into a new, independent website too?) will start picking up "Google cred" and *then* the link will start to have some weight.

This is NOT true. Links value will be carried through 301 permanent redirects,

Ok guys thanks for the answers.

Unfortunately I didn't manage to formulate the question properly and most of you got it in a wrong way. My English is not bad but it's still not my mother tongue...

But anyway I've figured out what I wanted. Your time is really appreciated anyway.

        Cheers guys.

Any single link unless it comes from a PR4+ site won't carry too much weight. I think you might be missing the big picture here. First off, let me say that IP addresses don't always disqualify links. This is due to the fact that Google engineers know that there can be several hundred websites on a single IP. You need to interlink a whole bunch of sites and/or link sites together that you have the same Adsense code on to raise red flags. OK, now back to my other point. Spend time getting lots of links from different sources. That one link is not going to make or break you. Hope this helps.
