    Hi Sven,

    It's a tough call to make without knowing your profit margins, but for many prestige products a direct marketing approach is a good start. Find a partner who has a good opt-in list (this could be a blogger, copywriter or anyone with a good list) and offer them a commission on each sale (say 10%) just for using the list.

    At first, try and connect on a personal note to obtain that valuable feedback for taking your product to market. In addition to email and direct marketing, you an look into building a specialized affiliate program in the future, allowing affiliates to earn a share of the sale on your expensive product.

    For a product with a high price it's paramount that you offer the value associated with it - or you'll never make a sale. This is were I like direct response marketing for quick feedback and adjust the offer so the value exceeds the price.

    I successfully sell info-products, seminars and home-study courses that are priced at $995, $1297 and $1497, as well as a one-on-one mentoring program that goes for $2500.

    Here are the top ways I sell them:

    * Two-step marketing to my own list, getting them to opt-in on a particular topic, then selling through autoresponders

    * Good SEO that leads people from a Google search to a multi-product web site where they can see that I'm a credible person. I do have people buying at this price level having not heard of me before, but I have evidence that they download a bait piece first before making their purchase.

    * Article marketing - EzineArticles.com and elsewhere

    * Selling additional courses to those who bought other courses

    And you want to accept major credit cards for payment. I don't know anyone (friend or customer) who buys things at that price level who does not have credit cards.

    My gut feeling is that if you put such a high priced item on ClickBank, someone would buy it/return it and put it up on the file sharing sites the very same day. There are a few directions you can pursue. First, as you said, use a PayPal button and do it yourself. Another way is to use RAP and encourage RAP users to promote your project. Still another approach is to look for a JV with an experienced partner(s).

      Something that size you need to have a great relationship with your clients. $2k is a hefty price. That's product launch worthy. Not just clickbank, sure put it on clickbank after the launch but in the meantime I'd take a look at planning for a launch.

    The OP wasn't asking about price. The OP is asking what affiliate network or what network could he put his product on to sell. ClickBank is for cheaper products yes. A lot of the networks are. What you can do is buy DL Gaurd and set up your payment system through PayPal or 2CO etc and even set up YOUR OWN affiliate program. You also might want to check out Paydotcom.com if you are looking for a network, but I really don't know if there is a price limit with them.

    Definitely use a merchant account.

    Just look at how the top players in IM accept payments. List Control by Frank Kern is being launched soon, just look at what he uses.

    I think with this price tag... you need to get your own merchant account, or use with Authorize.net...

    The important thing is to notify the bank or merchant service MORE THAN ONCE about your launch day and the volume of expected orders.

    Specially with new merchants... financial institutes freak out and freeze accounts withing "minutes" of having several high price orders (if you are not notifying them ahead).

    I sell "real" products worth up to €5000,00 using Paypal.
    Now you don't even need to register a Paypal account in order to pay. You can just use the credit card, that's pretty cool.

      Also, it's not that I don't want to accept credit cards. It's just that I additionally want to add PayPal as an option. I don't know, maybe I'm weird, but I'd not be able to buy List Control for example if Frank doesn't offer PayPal. I imagine that I can't be the only one in this situation, especially in Europe, and just would like to add PayPal as an additional option.
      It's not a problem to also accept PayPal if you primarily take credit cards.

      Some merchants have a separate button to pay using PayPal. Although I prefer not to take PayPal, I make special arrangements to do so when people ask, which is another solution.

      I believe there are also some shopping carts that include PayPal as an option.

      Generally speaking you sell products in this price range as a back end to lower priced products.

      The method of payment you use might be the same as whatever method your client used to pay for the lower priced lead in product (assuming that's practical).

      Often when you're getting into the higher price ranges you expect to give a little more client service to make sure someone who's decided to buy can get their transaction through as easily as possible.

      (In other words when they inquire with any problem you or your staff email or call them back on the phone immediately to sort out their issues).
