Email List What Is Best Attachments Text Or HTML

What is the best way to send out a report on a regular basis to a bunch of subscribers? Attachments text or HTML?

The report will contain a link inside to download the main file(zipped) refereed to in the report off my server and this will be done through Aweber. The PDF will be 1-2 pages and the downloaded file the same. Each file will be about 20-30k zipped.

Would it be best to zip the report, just attach it as a PDF or just put the body of the report in the email as text or HTML?

I am afraid if I send the attachment as a PDF the open rate will suffer. Any help would be appreciated.

Text attachment would be more Ok than HTML one.

    Reapr,

You're missing a golden opportunity here...

If you send any kind of attachment, you're missing the opportunity to drive them to your web site.

Why should you do that? Well, you have their eyeballs on your page and you can deliver whatever message you want while they are getting the download link.

Emailing a direct link to the zipped PDF also loses that benefit.

Bottom line - you can connect more intimately with your readers if they go to a page on your site that has a friendly message and the download link (make it *obvious* though).

Remember, lots and lots of folks would just download the zip file, store it in the black hole known as their hard drive and never open it - if you get them ON YOUR SITE you can at least connect with them a little - even if they never read the download.

    • Gary is right.

Not only are you missing a golden opportunity, you will dramatically reduce open rate with ANY kind of attachment.

      Don't do it. It's dumb.

This is great info thanks ... but
So on the thank you page I could put up an affiliate offer that is related to the report and then a link towards the bottom of the page for the report.

      Also
What would be the best way to protect that page should a subscriber unsubscribe? Change out the thank you page URL weekly?
