Squidoo and HubPages...Anyone making money from them?

From what I understand their are people who have specifically created a whole business around building highly optimized Squidoo lenses and HubPages for people...

I always thought of theses types of pages like I though of other Web 2.0 pages... Which is it just being a way to create another entrance point for people to read content on your target market that ultimately points back to your "money site"....

I have also utilized these pages as hubs and spokes in a few different linkwheels that I have had builts for a few different sites of mine.

What I am really curious is if anyone here has had any measurable success using exclusively Squidoo pages and Hubpages to drive traffic and have you made any money from the pages directly since they alow the inclusion of Adsense and what not?...

Any input?

Thanks
Gavin

Yes I do I do not care for Squidoo but hubpages can be a real money maker if done correctly. I add 2 affiliate links to every hub I publish. I add Amazon advertisements related to whatever my hub is about, and I also have Google adsense enabled on all my hubs for 3 streams of income. But most of my sales are through Clickbank, and Amazon. Adsense is usually just chump change here and there.

Hope that helps! Hubpages is one of my favorite traffic sources but it is time consuming.

Squidoo's a little bit harder to get on now a days... if you use a topic thats been mentioned a bunch of times and is associated with affiliate products they may reject the lens outright... Hubpages is a lot easier to get on and they get about the same amount of traffic as Squidoo at this point, plus they both rank equally well from my experience

Thank You all for the feed back...

My idea is to create 1 hubpage themed around every one Keyword phrase that my main money site targets...So if I have 10 main keyword pages that targets my Money site than I will have 10 separate hubpages all with unique content all targeting different keyword phrases all ultimately pointing back to my main money site...

    Thanks
    Gavin

I used to like Squidoo but they are locking out affiliate sites left and right nowadays. Don't put too much time in either site and definitely don't make it a money site.

I use Squidoo mainly for writing reports on my main interests which make me no money at all. It is so addictive, however, and when you get a Lens of the Day award it blows you away. You tend to forget about money and those purple stars are something else. But others are making some money on affiliate related sites but mainly through Amazon, eBay, Cafe Press and Zazzle.

If you are in Australia, as I am, it is hard for these type of programs to make any money for you as they are more USA and European specific. One of my affiliate lenses is first up in sig and my LOTD one is Murder by Plastic, also in sig.

Give it a go its a lot of fun

Squidoo was always good for rankings, but less so for traffic.

But they got way too strict recently and simply don't allow many subjects anymore, i got 32 very high quality lenses deleted (all kinds of stuff which cost me a LOT of work)....so my opinion about Squidoo is not the best anymore.

I just made a lens the other day and squidoo didn't accept it. I'm not to fond of web 2.0 properties about now.

I think anyone intent on making a fortune online is better off elsewhere. Squidoo is more for information and some of the lenses are out of this world for that. Its still a great fun site and I know a lot of people have joined the Warrior's Forum after reading some of my lenses on Marketing Online.

I do ok with a number of products on squidoo.

I have also had a bunch shut down by thier new draconian rules.

If you only pick products that stay within thier rules squidoo can be quit good.

Hubpages for me is luekwarm .... I have soem that are amazingly well ranked but only get sales very occasionally and others that just dont rank at all! This might be my methods not the site itself but when google picks up on a hub it often ranks very well ... soem dont even get indexed ...

If you have a lot of hubs on hub pages, you can make a good deal of Adsense Income.

You need to set up a decent number.
Squidoo... not so much, but of course the pages rank well.

I've used both on quite a few occasions, I've found HubPages gets much more traffic and is actually worth the work. Squidoo doesn't seem get indexed as quickly, nor does it rank as well.

      Hello-

I average around $200+ a month on one of my hubpages accounts in Adsense income.

And will make an occasional affiliate sale as well.

      So I like it.

I find Hubpages easy to use, and rank vey well for the right keyword. Minimal adsense earnings, and some clickbank sales from the Hubs.

What i do is use hubpages as my buffer sites and let them rank well in google. From Hubs I drive the traffic to my main money page.

The only advantage I find in squidoo and hubpages is that they rank really well

Squidoo is junk IMHO - it's time consuming to build pages, they look ugly, and they get 0 traffic.

Hubpages - now I like this. It's easy to build hubs and they rank well for high paying keywords. Also their ad optimisation is great, I am getting clickthrough rates you would not believe, which is even better considering they make off with 40% of your clicks! Adsense is good for me. I haven't yet cracked Amazon. I haven't also cracked the secret of getting a runaway success hub (i.e. 10,000+ monthly visits).

To make big ($500+) a month I think you need a lot of hubs and a hubscore of 95%+. Also the big earners are mostly early adopters.

There's a nice quality control mechanism. You need to write a few quality hubs to every blatant affiliate hub you do. It's no point putting up half a dozen marketing hubs either, you'll get shot down in no time at all. 90% of hubbers sign up to do this, and they don't last long.

I only ever put a few pages on HubPages and those didn't seem to rank particularly well, but perhaps there are tricks that I don't know. With Squidoo I've done quite well, but... their new rules are horrid and the idea that they changed the rules so significantly is quite rude. I have two lenses that earn a fair amount of money. One leads to my own sales page and one has multiple affiliate links on it. The one with the affiliate links would probably no longer pass their SPAM filter, so I don't dare edit it.

I like the Squidoo lens building. I find it a lot easier to write a couple short text passages, find a nice picture, select a YouTube video, setup the automatic blog/news update section, etc than to write one longer article for Hubpages. What I haven't quite figured out is predicting the traffic to Squidoo. I've had lenses that are duds and ones that are on Page 1 of Google results for good keywords and I can't quite figure out why the huge difference.

I (or other Squidoo users) would do well to get up to 50 Squidoo lenses and apply for the "Giant Squid" status, where they stop checking your lenses But I have less than 20 now. It all takes time.

In my experience Squidoo lenses don't get indexed most of the time unless you point a lot of juice at them. Like was mentioned previously too their layout is so clustered click throughs aren't great.

Hubpages have been able to indexed fast and rank well, one reason is probably because they don't allow duplicate content. Anything you post on hubpages is supposed to be unique to hubpages alone.

They tend to give enough internal link juice to get indexed and rank well though.

But with all this, I believe you should focus 100% on your OWN business. If hubpages or squidoo fits into your plan to build your separate business, then use em! I would in no way build my business around someone else's site that has the power to take my content down or edit it how they please.

I would say they can be useful tools, nothing more.

I think the reality is most people make very little from these types of site. They are better used as part of a funnel, a bit of linkjuice or a buffer site.

Yes they are good as funnels - I get a lot of traffic from within hubpages itself.

As to making money, I believe I am making a fairly good return on the investment of the hour or so it takes to write each hub.

Go to google and search for Chic Laptop Bags, Cool Laptop Bags, or Funky Laptop Bags. The squidoo lens that comes up in one of the top 3 positions is one of the most popular lens on Squidoo. She constantly maintains it, but it constantly stays in the top positions for her keywords.

The money, isn't in Squidoo itself, but more in affiliate product offers, check out the laptop bag lens in the search above and see how she is integrating her offers into the content. Also pay attention to how she is hosting her photos on Flickr creating a link back to the Squidoo lens with link juice coming from Do Follow links on Flickr.

Is it possible to make money on Squidoo, Yes. Is it about creating a bunch of lens and raking in the dough, No. It take effort to maintain the Squidoo lenses on a regular basis, but it can be a great resource in an overall traffic strategy.

I only have one squidoo page and I do nothing on it. I started it a few years back and I make about $50 a year from it. I get good traffic to it. I know they can make money, you just need to do some keyword research before you start one .

Squidoo have been sending me triple figures every month for over 2 years, and I get money from Amazon on top of this.

This Lensmaster shows how much she earns every month, and how:

Tiffany Dow has an excellent (and free) WSO where she shows how to make great lenses that make money:

Squidoo and HubPages are ideal platforms for a) learning and practising affiliate marketing, and b) testing out new niche topics before creating your own websites.

Like GavinLively I too was interested in how the two compared. It seems then that hubpages is the better choice. Still I guess for the actual selling having your own site would be better. How does Google Sites compare to Squidoo?

I use both for promoting my money sites, but I do make some adsense clicks on my hubpage every month, adsense isn't that successfull, ebay gets some clicks but not sales. I haven't tried affiliate links.

Squidoo not too much earnings, I make some money every month (a few cents), but I can't trace it back to my lenses, so I guess that's some sort of "allowance" I guess I could call it.
