What To Do With This Website

Hey guys,

I've got a good niche site that is getting traffic on autopilot but isn't making anything at all, I've mainly got amazon and clickbank banners up but the very few clicks I get aren't doing much.

What I am thinking of is having a little popup when they enter the site, or something that blocks them from closing the page. It'll be a free ebook that has all the info from my site and some other stuff from other sites in the same niche and they get it for free for doing a simple email + name opt-in.

The site is in the dog niche, it's getting about 1000-1500 UV a month.

3000 UV so far this year:
Google traffic - 1918
Yahoo traffic - 455
Bing traffic - 301
AOL - 39

So virtually all traffic is from search engines, which means targeted traffic.
I can't put Adsense on since I was banned about a year and a half ago for trying something as a newbie and not knowing it would get my account banned.

If anyone can recommend some programs or scripts for what I want to do, that would be great.

Sorry if this has been posted in the wrong section.

Thanks

You might consider posting a link to the site so that we can take a look at it and better guide you

Off the top of my head I have to tell you that those pop ups that happen when you try to leave appoint really irritate me. I also want to ask if you had considered selling your e-book instead of giving it away for free? If you're getting a bunch of targeted traffic and you can make sure that the e-book contains information that the site visitors want you might be able to bring in a tidy sum by offering the e-book at an affordable rate.

Just throwing banners on a site that is getting traffic, even if it is targeted, wont necassarily get you sales.

A link to the site would help people give some feedback.

Sorry, I really don't want to post the link since I'm afraid someone will take the niche and make a site and become my competitor

I know that the pop-ups at closing irritate people, however I'm sure they grab a lot of attention from people that aren't all that computer savvy. The reason I wanted to give away the ebook for free is because all the information can be found free on my site and can be found on other sites. So basically I can build a list of targeted buyers, hit them with an email recommending a product similar to my niche and that's where I make the money.

    Just my input of course

That's fair enough, sounds like you have a good site getting good traffic.

People pay for information products because of the convenience. Just about all of the info that we sell can be found for free by hunting through the search engines but people don't have the time.

Maybe you can ad to the e-book or put some bonuses in there and then stick a price tag on it.

Keep testing until something positive happens. (make sure you track all of your testing though)

    Hi Julie,

Thanks for the input and I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from when I don't expose my niche. I think I might try it for free and see if people are actually interested in signing up and if they are, move the price up to even $9.

Are there any programs that anyone can recommend that will allow me to give away a free ebook, but will require the person to enter an email and name, as well as send a confirmation link and then they get the ebook?

Thanks for the help thus far

      I personally use Aweber.

I guess Aweber and GetResponse are the two big ones.

Google them and check them out. Also google autoresponders just for your own research and learning.

Why Aweber and GetReponse don't accept Paypal is beyond me

I know what an autoresponder is

    Thanks for the help

From what I read, people have become blind to banners so you need massive traffic to make some rev from banners.

I had some fairly descent luck promoting clickbank's sitstayfetch (now called secrets to dog training) and I wasn't getting a 10th of the traffic you're getting. Try dedicating a review page for that product and also linking to it from every page.

I've got the sitstayfetch one going, it's got a few clicks this month no conversions - it is however in the top right corner blending in with the header, so that could be why it's not getting much attention.

I think I'm going to get some article writing and backlink building to see if I can bring some more traffic in, with backlinks do people recommend Angela's backlink packets?

Looks pretty solid, am I able to make different lists though?
So I have one list for one site, one for another site.

Basically, it isn't just one big list, I can break it down into what sites they signed up through?

You could try writing a couple of short reports on problems dog owners have. Say one for stop barking and one on potty training puppies. 5 pages of tips. And don't make them opt in for them so more people grab them. Promote them above the fold with nice images.

Then have your super ebook opt in offer mentioned a few times in your giveaways. To start building the list. You could sprinkle a couple ads in there too.

If nobody is really clicking on the ads on site, try pulling them off.
Now your site is not marketing, you are giving away content. Makes you a good guy in some peoples eyes With no ads on the site, you could easily join some forums and link to yourself especially since you are giving away free books. Oh, and Digg/Stumble your free books too.

Dog owners are hard core fans once you help them out. They like stories and they love to talk about their dogs. They have probably seen sitstayfetch ads a million times. Blind to them. I have only sold one copy in a year. Offer new things they might not have seen before. Cool stuff.
