Price for links on my site.

A company has contacted me about me adding some links to my site. The site is PR3 and gets around 120-150 uniques a day. They want to put 2 links(up to 6 words each) on my main page and 1 more on two sub pages both with a pr of 2.

They are offering me 200 pounds to keep the links for a year, is this too little is it average? don't really have anything to compare the price too..

Also what sort of affect can these links have on my site, is it likely to decrease my search engine rankings?

  • If you aren't making any money, then it is a good way to pay for your webhosting and generate a little bit of income. If you are doing significantly more than that per year, then yes, it is too little.

  • First of all, I'd ask for the exact wording and check that it fits in with your site ethos.

Next, sit down and work out the average cost per click over the course of a year. That is, if you know how many clicks will leave your page (from your site stats), then proportion what percentage of this will follow the advertising. Compare this to a similar cost for this advertiser on sites like AdWords.

A further point to consider. The company will always expect to negotiate and will start off with a lower offer. Use this to your advantage. If the link is valuable, you might ask for ask for a monthly contract, rather than an annual one. As you will no doubt be continuing to increase the traffic to the site over the coming year, this will give you more room to negotiate increased prices as the traffic grows.

Go for it. It's free money on the table unless you are making a heapload more and the links would send people elsewhere. But I'm assuming they are paying you for SEO ranking purposes so you can place the links anywhere you want? 200 pounds is a good deal I'd say.

Less than a pound a day for 2 links on the main page and more links on inner pages? I would not do it. I would build the site up and then sell the "coveted" main page for a lot more ... just my .02
