Do you have any advice on how to successfully promote a band online?

    Yes. Use Facebook Fanpages. They work BY FAR the best and it allows you to spread very quickly. Many bands use Facebook and it works like charm. Just make sure you create a FANPAGE instead of a profile so people can "become a fan".

    Do they already have an offline presence? If so, you can do a lot of viral marketing at gigs and use fans of the band to promote it.

    If not, you promote it much like any other site. Look to add an official web page, YouTube videos, plus a Facebook fan page and the mySpace equivalent. Submit royalty free music to some of the music directories. If people like it then it can again help the viral effect.

      Just found this article an article on ehow, just search for - how to use the internet to promote your band(I can't post links yet), it looks about right to me...

      @impact-productions - I like the Idea of spreading royalty free music.
