Hi Nick,

Do you have a detailed spec for what you are after? Everyone knows the spec is fluid and will need to change during development but you'll have a lot harder time hiring someone for this without a full spec.

That spec needs to go through two phases. The first is the "what do you want it to do" phase, where you ignore what is technically possible and figure out what the goal is. The second is the "how the heck do we do that" phase, where you involve an experienced developer in the spec and get them to layout what will be involved in creating the software (and culling bits that can't be done).

The mistake non-technical people make is to try and do both of these at the same time. Either involving a developer upfront who specs what he wants to build, not what you want it to do. Or trying to spec the "how do we do that" without a developer and thus having the whole thing be complete guesswork.

My recommendation is to go through phase one. Work out what you want it to do then hire someone to turn that spec into a full functional specification that can then be farmed out to people on elance etc.

Thanks Andy! I will get started on that this week, i had a general idea list that i made in Notepad of how i wanted the Software to function and how it should interect with the Members Database on the web site.

Is this your first software or does your current developer not have the ability to do what you're asking?

This is the first time i have tried to get some Software made for my Members, i don't have a Software Programmer on my team so im having to outsource the work to someone else.
