I've loads of info but none to show HOW!

One of the things everybody tells me is that I must build a list.
The most popular idea about list building seems to be to give something away.

This might seem a stupid question but HOW DO I FIND PEOPLE TO GIVE STUFF TO?

I don't want to join the major spam fest and send out thousands of emails with the subject line "Thank you - here is your download" because I dislike those emails when I receive them myself.

My eye sight is failing fast enough without sitting in front of my computer screen surfing Traffic Exchanges (even using multi-tabs).

So, can someone honestly tell me how a list can be built? There always seems to be a very basic factor missing from ebooks that are supposed to tell you how to build a list and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to know what it is.

Surely not SPAM!

Create a squeeze page which outlines a free product you will give the user for opting in to their list. Then drive traffic to the squeeze page through article marketing, guest blogging, video marketing, PPC, adswaps, or any other traffic means.

Split test your squeeze page for higher opt-in rates, rinse and repeat.

As long as you drive targeted traffic to the page you should be able to build a list pretty quickly. Once you have an initial list you can leverage it to gain more subscribers through adswaps, and auto-responder swaps.

      Thanks Paul,

Creating trafffic is obviously the missing link along with an effective squeeze page and the quantity of articles and blog posts neccessary to get people to click on your signature.

I have noticed a distinct drop-off in article views as this form of marketing is exploited by more and more people.

Obviously the missing factor is nothing more nor less than sheer application and consistent hard work - despite all the 'click of a button' and 'fully automated' claims.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

    1. Make website + Squeeze page
    2. Send PPC traffic to it.
    3. Give FREE Report/Ebook, whatever.

Or ... you try a different route. PPL: Everytime someone signs up to your form, you get paid. I just send PPC traffic to simple micro-sites and get paid a heapload of money for it. The best part: I dont have to do the selling. Good times

You can do article marketing for your niche and link your squeeze page anchor in your resource box. Offer them a free report. Get them to put in their name and email to get the free report.

You could also use press releases to get them to your squeezer.

    Video marketing works well too.

    These methods are free.

article marketing and PPC are the two best sources of getting traffic to your squeeze page. You can also do some guest blogging if you have some contacts SIR.

Art, I learned the missing ingredient recently from Adam and Deans stuff. Build a list of about 300 people thru squeeze page (video is best response), highly targeted blog posts with backlink, then trade links with other people with lists. This way you can double your list to 600, then do it again to 1200, etc. It's win win.

I cant remember how to view their stuff as I deleted the original emails but do google search on Dean Holland & Adam Spiel.

Btw, once I did keyword studies using Market Samurai, I was able to do single blog posts that account for huge amounts of traffic.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

I agree with all the above. Adswaps and JV giveaway events can give you an added layer to building your list.

I like the idea of joint ventures, but do you not need a decent sized list to begin with in order to seal a JV deal?

You sound as though you're putting your cart several paces in advance of your horse. You shouldn't even be considering building a list until you've FOUND YOUR MARKET FIRST (sorry to shout, but you started it ).

Who are you going to be selling to?

What do they want to buy/are already buying?

    Where do they hang out?

How will you reach them in a cost/time effective manner?

Can you make a profit from this market?

Are there enough related products/services wanted by this market to sustain a long-term relationship?

Start answering these questions and you'll quickly know what sort of product would be the most attractive to give away as an enticement to subscribe and you'll also have some clearer ideas about the most effective methods to contact your prospects.

Then you can get to grips with building your list.

      Totally agree with Frank here.

Once you know your target market, you can start to find where they hang out. (forums, twitter, facebook, other social sites, big authority sites)

Then all you have to do is create an offer they can't refuse and put it in front of them!

WSO forum is a great example of how you can do this. Lots of buyers looking for deals, it's just up to you to create a great one for them to take advantage of.
