Warriors Beware- Know Who You Take Advice From

I have noticed lately that a lot of people are making comments and suggestions without so much as a bit of backup to their claims or suggestions.

I have the flu, a bad headache and I can't sleep, so I am going to provide a mini-rant here.

I want to see proof, I want to know that you have tested it. How long did you test it? How many times?

It seems like some are making comments and suggestions without really knowing what they're talking about. They seem to want to jump into a topic for the sake of...well, I don't know why.

Mini rant over.

Of course, some people can make suggestions or comments without showing proof, but those people are known for what they do.

Warriors, beware of who you take suggestions from.

And those of you who make these suggestions, if you're here to help, that's great and truly commendable, but remember that your words here have the potential to ruin many peoples businesses and lives should they take advice that was posted here just to increase a post count or call attention to a sig file or whatever in threads about things that you don't have much experience in.

If you have tested something and you know for sure that what you are saying is fact...GIVE THE PROOF! If not, and you "heard it through the grapevine"...then say that you ACTUALLY HAVEN'T TESTED IT and you are GUESSING.

Just a few words on this forum could easily make or break someone else's whole life!!!!

This is not targeted to any one person or thread. It's just something that has been getting under my skin for weeks now.

Respectfully,
Allen Graves

I agree, and if you want proof of my success with article marketing just ask
    Travis Sago.

And that's being a lazy SOB working a lousy 15 minutes a day for him.

Imagine if I actually put in some effort.

Don't get me wrong. I do a lot of testing and I have a rather large network of people that do testing for me on a daily basis.

But I can't test everything! Nobody can.

I don't want to discourage anyone from posting something that they may be on to. It might be something I was planning on testing but hadn't yet. It may be something I hadn't even thought of!

It's just irritating when you spend a lot of time and effort testing different things and then someone jumps in and says something totally opposite of what you found to be the truth and they have no backup whatsoever.

Oh well. My headache is going away (Good ole Goodys Powders ), I think I'm gonna try and get some shut-eye before I make any more people mad. LOL

        Allen,

It has not just been replys to threads either....

I've noticed quite a few new threads that have been started were questionable at best. I would never "call anyone out" in the middle
of a thread that they started, but it was damn hard not to reply to
        the thread like this....

        I DON'T BELIEVE YOU!

LOL, Jeremy...you always have something to say, dontcha. But you're right, I see threads started like that too. Just tell me what you've done to arrive at your opinion, that's all.

Well, maybe this thread will make a tiny difference in the quality of responses we'll see. Maybe not.

Allen, what's the old saying "take it with a grain of salt".
If someone makes a post or create a product most of
us would want proof but a lot of newbies on this board
want so much to believe they will sallow the crap hook
            line and sinker...

People need to start asking more question and demanding
            proof...

I've straddled that fence many times, and have the calluses to prove it. [Proof withheld for aesthetic reasons]

There have been many posts where I've wanted to jump in with something I think will help, and pull back because I don't know my suggestion will work outside of my experience. In other words, something worked for me in one set of circumstances but I haven't tested outside of that set.

There have also been many posts I've wanted to jump all over a poster for putting up pure road apples and calling them pie. I often pull back because calling the poster out will only make them dig their heels in deeper. Better to let the thread die away naturally...

There's nothing like a good rant to start/end the day

I have to agree with the notion that one should be careful whose advice to follow...

I'd go even further and say that it is a good idea to listen to the advice of many, take notes, form your OWN opinion based on the evidence and then set about proving the theories you've adopted.

There's rarely a right or wrong answer, only opinion based (sometimes) on personal experience.

What I find amusing is regurgitated and second hand information that the opinionated try to force upon us, claiming it to be fact. Sometimes I can't help myself and sneak a little bit of sarcasm into the mix in those cases.

Up your dosage of Ascorbic acid (eat crackers with it if that upsets your tummy) to 1000 mg every 2 hours until your bowls become loose then back it off to every 3 hours, then every 4 until your digestive track is normal and continue at that dosage until well. (flu)

Get at least a half hour of unfiltered sunlight - 2 or more hours if you can. (sleep: stabilizes melatonin, etc and helps kill flu)

Blow the hot air from a hair dryer in your face while lying down (headache). :p

And I see it has worked for you very nicely. Honestly - if YOU can do it, that is a very encouraging note for the rest of the IMers out there.

                Hello Allen

                So true, so true!

                EVERYONE is doing this...

                ALL the gurus do that...

In my opinion, they're simply self-justifications that what they're doing themselves is right.

But I find myself biting my tongue the most when people state incorrect facts as correct facts, often on technical matters.

But hey, it gets their signature viewed a couple more times. Who cares that someone made a wrong decision based on the bad advice?

I often think this place would be very different if signatures were turned off.

                Cheers,

            n/a? I know him! LOL

            Seriously, I'm glad you asked.

That reminded me to say: If you do decide to take advice from someone that can really make a big difference to you either way, do some research on that person. Read their blog (if they have one), check out their websites on the topic (if they have any), see if they have an established mailing list or newsletter on the subject.

          Uh...yeah, by all means, PLEASE.
That is not MY info - that is AMA general knowledge, however, if you get flu bad enough to be hospitalized you have to ASK for ascorbic acid infusions as they won't just give them to you on their own in all but a few rare cases in which people have doctors willing to buck the status quo to save someone. NOTE - I should have said this upfront - if you are sensitive to the ascorbic acid you can use ascorbic sulfate, less reactive though.
If you CAN handle the acid - Orange Juice is killer if you drink it by the quarts - has a natural antihistamine in it so helps unplug your head. I started on massive amounts of orange juice when I was old enough to "just say no" to pharms and shots for my life threatening allergies and asthma and I got well real freakin' fast.

I backup what I say with proof. If I didn't try it, I won't say it, or at the very least I will say that it is my opinion. As with any forum, there are those that simply echo sentiments in other threads. It is up to the educated consumer to decide which course of action is best for their situation.
