Where to add the blog?

I have a top level domain that I want to add a blog to, but I don't know what would be best.

The choices are domain.com/blog or blog.domain.com

I have seen both, but lately i've seen several blog.domain.com or store.domain.com

I'm not sure which one is best. What do you guys think?

    Hmm.. I have question. Does it really matter where you put your blog? Will it affect your rankings or your earnings for that matter?

    But just to state my opinion, I have always been using the domain.com/blog option. I know that the other option existed but I have never really thought about choosing between the two. I was too concerned with simply getting the blog up.
