Marketing with Twitter

I keep hearing about people marketing with Twitter. Any good course recommendations? I just don't see how it can be done...

The main mistake people make is from the get go, trying to promote after they use services or tactics to get a twitter following...

Instead of trying to sell someone, GET TO KNOW THEM FIRST! It's no different than what you should be doing with your email list... Offer them something of value, something that will also interest their followers so they retweet your message (more followers are gained by that also), then every once in a while, put out a link to your blog with an interesting message, don't try to sell anything there either, just yet... but try to make use of a optin form on your blog or normal static website...

as time goes by, more people will add you to a list that's a new feature in twitter as of a few months ago, and if your tweets are compelling enough they'll check out their list they created from time to time, or even use those software applications like Mike Filsaime's tweet glide to filter you into a column of those they actively read and follow.

Then the rest just nicely fits into place thereafter.

    Hey there cjed.

You can market to Twitter if you will look at the nature of the people who are tweeting. Spending 1-2 days there will tell you. The best things that I've marketed with Twitter are CPA (Cost per action) campaigns and Twitter-related products. You just have to feed them what they want and they will follow.

    Hope that helps.

I like that "feed them what they want". Isn't that what this is all about?

So for instance if I'm selling spinning pretty widgets I'd want to look for people "tweeting" about spinning pretty widgets? Can you post links to your sites?

Twitter isn't about marketing, it's about communicating and building relationships and the rest will follow. On Twitter, you need to give first, and then you can do some take.

      Hi Paul,

I couldn`t agre more, the video course i mentioned by Dave Nicholson actuslly teaches you step by step how to do that ethically in the easiset possible way, i have to admit that i have bought twitter courses in the past that teach you how to basically sell sell sell to your followers, and i didn`t think that wise for the long term!

I have overtime bought a few the same, i kept searching to find one i was comfortable with that offered ways to give value to followers and to date the only one i have is "Tweet Dynamite" By Dave Nicholson, its a good course, like i said previous you can access it at my website digitalwordmedia.com, !

      Thanks....John.

  • As a marketing medium, Twitter is not too different than your email list. Treat your followers in the same way as you would your email subscribers. Send them tweets that have the same quality as your emails. All key aspects of marketing such as providing good content, giving things of value and building a good relationship with them still apply.
