Name.com or Namecheap.com

I understand they both give free whois privacy with domain registration.

Anyone like one more than the other? pros and cons?

I only have godaddy and namecheap to compare, but namecheap seems to keep getting recommended everywhere I look. And yes, they do a free whois privacy thing. And they are also cheap. And they also have excellent customer service, I wrote on the forums last week and had a reply the next day, most times I am waiting months.

And no, godaddy do not give free whois data protection, you have to pay for that.

They are also slow and it is almost impossible to both find anything on their site and even get your domains away from them as they lock you into a 60 day period where you cannot move, further wasting your time.

I never used namecheap, only used name and godaddy.

If you wanna buy .info i highly recomend godaddy, because they offer 0.89$ each one for the first year. If you want .eu i recommend name, they offer lower prices, 1$ less....

If you want .com, both work but i prefer name, because they offer google apps faster (they do that on name automatic, on godaddy you have to work on configurations).

Anyways, for coupons most of the hosting companies offer coupons!

I find that if you have hosting with hostgator and namecheap, its very fast to redirect your nameservers. Just google "namecheap coupon code "month" 2010" and you usually save a few dollars.

      I prefer name.com.

If I remember correctly, when I investigated the 2, namecheap.com only gives you whois privacy free for the first year. After that they charge you.

That may have changed, but you should check to make sure.

To add to the confusion there also is cheapnames.

I don't think there is much difference as long as you get your hosting from a different place.

namecheap is top notch.. i have like 50+ domains with them and never experienced one single problem.

plus, and for me that's a big plus, you can use your epassporte virtual visa to fund your account -
    just wanted to mention that.
