When is a market right for product creation

So randomly thought of a possible product today, and looking into the niche online, there is no info product on how to do it yet in existence. However, there quiet a lot of competing sites. Given most of the sites are like "quick guide to do ____." Our individual pages or ehow articles etc. No products, but still a LOT of info on how to do the thing already.

I've never created a product before, what does this market indicate as far as the possibility of making a successful product?

As far as numbers go, most the keywords yield around 40k unique results. There's a few with under 10k, Lots with 100k or more. When removing quotes, almost everything seems to have 100-200k broad results.

That is a tricky situation. I don't know what the niche is but look at it this way.

Go to google and type in, how to tie a tie. This is something that a lot of people search for everyday but you don't see any ppc ads, or anyone actually selling information. If you put together a product on that you won't get any sales because it is already available all over the place for free.

some topics people will not PAY for information. sometimes you stumble into an untapped market. judge how much people want the info and test. start building a list with a little freebie giveaway, and ASK them what they need help with... find out what part of the topic is so pressing that they would spend money to buy...

Product creation should be to fill a void in the market, not just because you want to make it... sometimes the two crash together and you get a winner, but make sure people will buy it first.

      Hmm, interesting thoughts, thanks.

Deezy, its definitely not something that people won't spend money on. It's a do it yourself vs spend quite a bit of money hiring people to do it, kinda thing. The doing it yourself is a little challenging and not for everyone, but with the amount information already out there about how to do it yourself, it makes me think there's enough people willing to try.

It's also something that there are a lot of subtopics and sidetopics to. If a product was to encompass every aspect and related aspect of the issue, I could see how it would be worthwhile.

You have heard test test test.

As stated, if you do your research and find no
adwords ads, you may be producing your product
        for your self.

The reason marketers tell you to search for some
competion is they have proved be yound a shadow
of a doubt, that if people are not advertising,

        no one is buying...

There's lots of people advertising via adwords in the niche. The advertisers are just the people selling professional services, as opposed to a do it yourself guidee

From what you've written so far, it seems like it's probably worth testing.

There's free information available on pretty much every subject under the sun, but that doesn't stop people from buying info-products. It all comes down to marketing. Info-products almost always have the "unknown secrets" angle, basically promising special insider information that you can't find anywhere else. This is usually not true, but it still works as a marketing tactic.

As suggested above, start out with a small product like a short report. Something that you don't need to invest more than a few hours in. If it works, you can build a bigger product and raise the price and if it doesn't work, you didn't lose much.
