New ghostwriting business -- need advice

I'm starting a ghostwriting business and was wondering if ya'll could help me make some decisions. I know I need to build credibility first but I want to offer SEO, LSI, well-researched, quality content in the form of articles, reports and ebooks. Right now, I write for two blog and really enjoy the writing and researching.

I've been writing in the academic world for the last 15 years and now I want to write some fun stuff for whom every want it. I want to offer the content already done so all you have to do is download it and put it on your site, article directories or offer it as PLR. So, my question is about the subject matter.

I can research any subject and create content but my specialty is alternative health, gardening, fitness, and weddings but since I want to offer it here on the Warrior Forum I though I would get your feedback first.

What subjects should I offer? Or rather, what subjects would you like see?

Ghostwriting can be a lucrative business. I suggest you do a little research and see where there is a hole with regards to the niche. Here in the WF, I can almost guarantee, most will need or require anything associated with internet marketing, SEO and online business. However, I tend to believe that SEO writing is pretty individualized. I have a friend who is a content writer who specializes in SEO and the only reason she does not do pre-written work is because a lot of webmasters in need of SEO friendly articles WANT their particular keywords included in the article and the article to be catered to their particular business. At least that is what I always expect when I hire an article writer. I may be wrong, and doing, or selling pre-written SEO articles may turn out to be great for you. But you asked for our opinion and I am giving it to you. I want to wish you luck with your business, and I hope you find a lot of guidance and learn a lot from your participation here at WF.

Have you tried using elance/guru/scriptlance etc to build up creditbility by working as a freelancer? Remember that ghostwriting is probably best offered as a combination of services, like SEO, article marketing, PR releases, etc.

Not that many people just want an ebook written, but a lot fo people are looking for general content for their website, be it for content alone (i.e. Newsletter) or for SEO/Promo/Marketing purposes.

Whatever you do, if you're good, don't sell yourself short. Take a look at what Tiffany Dow has done with her PLR site:

Private Label Rights - PLR | PLR MiniMart

    She's a well-respected ghostwriter.

I'm not sure I want to offer PLR but I want to offer original content for websites, article marketing, etc. and for others to sell it as PLR. I have watched Tiffany Dow for some time now and she's the one who inspired me to go with ghosting writing.

I also like creating newsletters or rather magazines in PDF form for websites.

Nick -- I have tried guru, elance, etc. but most of them want cheap, cheap and it takes forever to get even one job.

I rather just offer the content here already for someone's website or marketing campaign.

It sounds you like have gotten some good advice.

I have been writing for quite some time - both on and offline. It has also been my experience that most of my 'SEO' clients want the work to be written with their particular keywords used. Some of them even supply article titles that be should be used.

I suggest that you market yourself as you have in your post here - just describe your abilities as well as areas of specialty. You will find that many of your clients will want to rely on you for advice related to article marketing and other issues concerning article use, as well as information about web content, autoresponder series, press releases and more.

Obviously, the more you can offer and the more versatile you can be - the more clients you can acquire. You will need to keep learning about how to best use keywords according to what is happening across the Internet. The reality is that proper keyword density, etc. can sometimes depend on the specific intended use of the document or content.

All the best with your new venture!
