Is this ever okay in the word of internet marketing??

Quick question.

I am camera shy...which is odd because I'm a film maker, anyhow, I wanted to know would it be appropiate to do a video with someone standing in my place, introducing themselves and introducing me and my product on my behalf?

Let me know your thoughts.

Note: In no way do I plan to mislead viewers to think this is me. My "stand int" will clearly state they are not me and I am not them.

  • I think it would be ok if you where like two persons talking about the product.

But I think in the long run you allways want to brand yourself and come across as an authority figure in your niche.

So I say don´t be so shy.

In many cases I think this is the smartest, most powerful way to promote a product or service - especially if the stand in someone who is known. Think about all the "celebrity" endorsements off line. Same online. Can you get a celebrity or someone who is known within your niche to cut the video or even offer a testimonial or some other form of endorsement? It's powerful. You can also use "royalty free" photos and video clips and use your voice on the videos. Lots of ways to make this happen so don't let being camera shy hold you back.

Sure. Just call them your spokesperson. Done often in business. We all know that the annoying "Mr Izuzu" of TV ads was not the owner of Izuzu. The funny little disclaimers on the screen made the ads fun.

Kind of reminds me of the Rich Jerk's videos. Very entertaining, even if the guy was an actor >

I would think that this would be fine. As long as they are not saying thier you. If they are a dynamic speaker great. Promote your site and your products. But as has been mentioned before it is tough to brand yourself that way.

That's a great way to promote your product! Especially since you know the product better than anyone else. Just make sure others find it appealing.

If you can get over your fear, I think it is always good to get yourself in front of the camera, there are other ways that you can do this though, lots wealthy internet marketers never show there face.

You could do a powerpoint with your picture and use a screen capture software like Jing to do it and then submit straight to You Tube. I have recently been messing around with Presi - which is a cool tool if you have the time to mess about with it.

Let me know how you get on.

I can't recall the exact product right now, but I remember seeing an infomercial where the spokesperson "interviewed" the promoter. The interview was mainly the spokesperson reciting bullet points, turning to the promoter and asking "isn't that right" or similar. In 30 minutes, the promoter probably didn't say more than a hundred words or so, just sat there and nodded and agreed when called upon.

It must have been fairly effective, but it ran for quite awhile.

Why not have them interview you and make it less formal?

    Or...

If you want to do a sales video, try doing a Powerpoint presentation on your screen and narrate it. You can do this using CamStudio (free software) or Camtasia (the fancy paid version).

If you don't have Powerpoint, you can use Google Documents (again, free).

If you're happy speaking about your product but don't want to be on camera, the Powerpoint video presentation is the best way forward, methinks.

I agree with Kevin. If you are not comfortable being in front of the camera then get a spokes person. It would be better if you could do it but not everyone is made to be in the limelight.

    Cheers

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what you are proposing. But I do agree with the others who have said you should, at some point, bite the bullet and get in front of the camera. People like to buy from other real people and this will only improve your own unique brand. Girl Scouts sell a fair number of cookies every year by using shy, non-professionals. I'm betting you will too.

You are making this work at home stuff way harder than it is. Ready for some sanity? Clear your head and start over.

Thanks, I might just "bite the bullet." Maybe I'll have better luck if I do it somewhere relaxed where I can speak freely as if talking to a friend. I guess I jusf fear a laid back appraoch might back fire and make me look unprofessional. I see less and less videos with people in their backyard or sitting outside in front of nice landscape.

I fell that me in the office is only a small percentage of who I am and what i represent, I believe thats what I fear most: coming off phony, because I'm not. I'm a college student that likes to go to movies, hang out with friends, go laser tagging...you think this could hurt my image or at least the one I'm trying to build??

yeah its fine, I always use pen names and other things depending on what niche I'm in... I don't think its the face you put up as much as the person behind it giving away a lot of good content and spreading good will

Yeah, I agree with KaseyJones and some others here. I think hiring someone else to do the presentation for you, or using them as a "front-person, or even choosing a pen name should work fine, unless of course you are hoping eventually to become "an authority" in the particular niche you are promoting.

You don't look like you would be all that camera shy, even though you are sort of "hiding behind the stunners" in your forum picture. I don't even have a forum picture, for example. Perhaps another way to "hide" your face is to take a picture from the side profile, or even 3/4 rear, say for example while sitting in front of a computer monitor in an otherwise darkened room.

      Hope this helps.

A lot of marketers do this. Rich jerk uses this strategy and has made
millions online. If you can afford it, get a video spokes person... That
    works too.
