I need your advice with my new blog

I launched a blog and I would need your opinion.

The URL is www.wordpress-how-to.com

What should I add and what should I cut to make it better?

Later today I will post my free guide on how to install wordpress from scratch.

I would appreciate your contribution.

Thanks

I'd put some space between the numbered paragraphs.

    Will do it, thanks.

However, on a forum with at least 300 people online at the same time, one single answer seems a little bit low for a support forum.

From one new person to another, my advice would be to sit back and chill a bit.

(Edit: looks like you're NOT new, my apologies...but this means you should be familiar with the working style around here.)

Making digs about no one posting right away would most likely be the fastest way to the BOTTOM of the list for replies from anyone around here. A lot of threads are moving up and down; sometimes it just takes a while before people get to you.

As for your blog, looks like you're off to a good start. Just add more content.

I agree about using a bit more white space. It's aesthetics, but it's easier on the eyes. Wall o' text can be intimidating.

      Best,

      ~D.

I know sometimes it takes a while ... but this isn't the first time when it's happening so I had to give it a little push, and the regular "up" isn't working here ... and if a thread goes down without a reply or without having anyone subscribed to it, it stays there.

Thanks for your input, I've changed it a little bit so it doesn't look like a 'wall'.

What is your target audience's knowledge level? Does it matter to you?

"How to" tells me introductory, but to me, as a beginner, your site does not look introductory. Perhaps you'll create a beginner's area?

I have a guide on how to install wordpress but I didn't have time to put it online as I said earlier. That's for beginners. And maybe I will create other guides on the 'usage' topic.

Edit: target audience's knowledge level? Hmm .. I think both beginner and intermediate. Experts won't need to know anything

Your blog looks really good and informative to me.
If people were not responding immediately it could be because of the time difference. Most of the warriors are in the USA so it could be it was too early for them!

You need content bro. Who cares about the outlay of the actual blog. There are many websites out there that are as ugly as sin and still make money. If you can grab organic traffic, you will be on your way.

What can I get from your site that I cannot get here? - Main Page WordPress Codex

You'll need to differentiate otherwise you'll be wasting your time unless you intend to be updating the site for your own personal reference/educational journey.

Do you know the theme of your site (I don't mean the theme of your template)?

...and it's not "All you need to know about Wordpress".

Do you know who you are writing to?

... and it's not to complete newbie's to Wordpress based your first few posts.

Why is your last post titled, "Recommended plugins"?

... recommended for whom? (if you say everyone with Wordpress then you answered incorrectly)

P.S. I used the keyword search "wordpress how to" in Google and the giant has the number one spot out of 47,300,000 results from my side of the Google server farm.

Solution: Take some time to read this thread - http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...utes-work.html

The answer is waiting for you there...

Well .. codex is good and it's wrong at the same time. This is from my personal experience. Every time I looked for some info on wordpress I didn't find it on codex. It has a lot of info but just not what I needed. So if I get this website ranked well, it will rank even better for longer keywords(eg: how to install wordpress).

Mmm.. maybe I don't get the point. But why not?!

This blog is especially for newbies. With the time, it will contain lot of info, but right now it's poor with that as I only have 2 hands

Inspiration of the moment. Actually I was looking for one of them (social bookmarks) and I couldn't remember the name at that time (i did it later), so I decided to write a post on that. And, yes (even if it's not correct), I recommend them to all users.

Yes, that's right. But, on the other hand, let me tell you something. I've read a post of Tim Russ on a little forum entitled "Too much competition, so I quit". He was blaming the ones with this mindset... and you know what? he's right. Yes, wordpress is #1. If I get to #2 and have a better title for a specific kw, i'll get the click.

I've quickly read the first post. A lot of weight, indeed.

Thanks for your input, it really helps.

    Here are my advice:

    1. Remove the calendar. If there's nothing of importance for the user. Remove it.
    2. Remove the polls. If this is new and no returning users, people won't bother voting.
    3. Put the search function just below the RSS. It's easy to miss that in the current design.

      2. kept the polls. if they want to vote, they'll vote. In time, I'll have enough content.
      3. search is embeded in the design. If I move id below the rss, it will look bad. How about a search widget ?
