Right as a newbie myself, I'm in debt and have little experience here with niche selection and Internet marketing itself. However I have been given the opportunity to get a free website on a free .co.uk domain name.

I am looking at getting into IM and was wondering how you go about selecting your niche product and start making your first $10 etc, I know I'm not going to be one of these people thats going to be getting $1,000 a month etc (well, not yet, who knows about the future!) but was just wondering if anyone could give me and other newbies a guide as to where to start and how best to select your niche etc..

Thanks in advance

Here's the way I find out what people are looking for, then I'll show you how I narrow it down...

First, I check the 'Hot Items', 'New Releases' and 'Bestsellers' lists on the following sites:
    • eBay
    • Amazon (use the one specific to your country)
    • eBay Pulse
    • Google Trends
    • ClickBank
    • Pay.com
I also go to my local newspaper and magazine shop and look for niche magazines. If there's a magazine out there (or a book on Amazon) then you can be sure that there's already a market there. I then search that topic on Google to see if there are people already advertising products in that niche. If there are 3 or 4 people advertising products, then they must be making money from it.

I also check to see how many searches that niche or keyword is getting. For this I use the Google keyword tool: https://adwords.google.co.uk/select/KeywordToolExternal. Type in the keyword and click 'Get Keyword Ideas'. You'll see what you typed in along with other words in that niche.

Ideally, you're looking for more than 10,000 global searches per month and less than 50,000 for the smaller niches. There needs to be a market without a shedload of competition.

ClickBank.com is really good for finding products to promote. Go to the Marketplace and choose your market area e.g. e-Business and e-Marketing. Then search by 'Gravity'. This tells you what's selling really well now.

Hope that helps a little. If you need any more help, drop me a message or post a reply here. Once you've got going with the above, maybe we can take it on a bit further.

Oh, one last thing: Once you've found some potential niches, look for forums (like this one) within that niche. Then see what questions people are asking. If you can put together the answers to those questions in a free report, you could build a list in that niche.

    Good luck and happy browsing.

    Matt

Yep. It's called the search function. This forum is replete with solid advice and instructions. Do that first, then ask specific questions. Or go to the WSO section and buy something that covers getting started as a newbie. Better yet, buy a War Room pass and spend a few hours learning.
