I did it... I listened to you and it's paying off!

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a rags to riches story... but i've learned an important point today.

You may remember my earlier thread, wondering what to do with the various sites i've set up. Basically having too many to concentrate on for the moment.

Essentially I lost focus... and I gather a lot of newbies also do so.

Well taking the warriors advice, i've started to concentrate on just one site at a time, to see if I can make it work. Maybe it will, maybe it won't but i'm willing to try.

In the meantime however i've just flipped one of the other sites for a few hundred dollars

This has given me such as boost that i'm going to try and sell off a few more of my adsense/amazon sites in the background whilst concentrating on the one.

I guess what i'm trying to say is... do something!!! Don't just make site after site like I did and leave them, don't wait for the next WSO that involves no work on your behalf (it won't come)... build one, give it a good go and move on if it doesn't happen... there's always the next site

    That's great!

Now replicate that over and over again for different niches and see how you can improve on it.

Sometimes all we need is a leap of faith to take action and will reap the results. Well done. In most times action is the missing equation and you find yours.

Because just conceiving everything in your mind is not enough. There has got to be a will in order to achieve something great. Just like what the old adage says that great things come from small beginnings.

      Great job.

Well done on making some money but I must say...

Trying to get rich off 1 site is a sure fail system...not saying it cant be done but its much harder. Having lots of smaller sites that dont need much maintenance is much easier option and this way you dont put all your eggs in 1 basket. Infact falling in love with 1 site is one of the biggest issues people have and why they spend years not making anything.

You didnt make money because you started focusing....you made money because you had previous sites....so if you had more sites....you could sell more in the long run $$. Understand

Also regarding your quote below I cant agree. "build one, give it a good go and move on if it doesn't happen... there's always the next site"

Thats a HUGE problem. trying out a site then not getting an results and moving on to the next site...big mistake. Find a system...and follow it and make sure it works the first time

Anyway thats enough rambling...not having a go at you and I made some assumptions so I'm not directing my comments at you really...just some general advice.

Glad your happy and focused though.

I wouldn't agree with that all the time and im sure many others here wouldn't either!

It really depends on the person as i hate making website so each one i make has to make me a really decent amount of money and so i monetize them all in as many ways as possible and spend ages on their conversion rate's and earning's rather than spending that time creating what could be flop site's over and over again to each earn me pennys on the dollar!

One of my site's brings me in around 5 to 7k a month at the moment and it took me alot less time than creating 100 or so sites to earn me $1 or $2 a day like alot of people seem to do!

  • When you jump from one thing to another, you can loose your focus on what you really want to achieve. It is good that decided to do the right thing. It seems like you already started to see the benefits.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the replies, the well wishes and the constructive points...

What i meant was focusing on one site at a time, not just one site entirely!

What I should explain is that i'm a designer trying to get into all this...

I researched a load of what I think are profitable domains and built a load of websites, but failed to promote them as I should have so they've just been left there.

Rather than leave them fester i'm focusing on one for the moment, and offering the rest for sale. Rest assured i'm not pitching everything on just one site, I just need some direction for the moment.

I actually agree with both points... the plan is to release a load of mini-sites, though I have to make sure I don't design them and forget about them all!!

I think my main issue as a designer is that I get bored by the marketing side which I realise is the most important bit!!

If you're referring to the site I flipped... I just designed a site that I thought would appeal to visitors, as I do with all my sites, however once designed I neglected the marketing side.

The site itself probably sold for a lot less than its potential but it's nice to see it being used properly!!

Yeah your right Im sure it depends on the person. The great thing about IM is theres no 1 right way to do everything. We can only talk about the experiences we have had.

good suggestions Tim - getting that balance of focussing on one, but keeping an eye on the others is always a challenge. I find the IM scene so full of bright shiny objects (this week it is Frank's List Wonder and Georges's Ulti Traffic, among so many others ;-) it is so important to remain focussed on the business model you have already tried, tested and now requires 3 or 4 months of undistracted work. Easier said than done.

I used Flippa, though to be honest I wasn't that impressed with the clarity of instructions/costs etc.

I think for the rest of the sites I may well advertise on here
