Screw Passion, What Are The Best AM Resources Focusing On Earning Money?

Having been trying to get back into affiliate marketing again I've been reading up on it and checking out some resources but many of them have one major draw back.

They recommend you "find a few things you're passionate about" and then "write solid content about those topics over-delivering to your visitors" and then "find affiliate products related to your niche and promote those".

That is all fine and dandy and I know that that would work, problem is my passions do not coincide with large profit potential products.

What I do have is a passion for the PROCESS of creating and improving revenue generating affiliate sites regardless of the product.

This is the system I would prefer to follow as opposed to what I outlined above:

1. Find a highly profitable affiliate product
2. Create a site around that product
3. Target solid, SE rankable keywords with content on the site
4. Make the sale

Please recommend the best AM resources (websites, guru's, programs, etc.) for information that is more in line with this system of affiliate marketing.

Now, I have already done this myself by taking the Bidz $7 free signup affiliate offer a couple years back and building a site around 'cheap diamond engagement rings' (a relatively non-competitive term with decent searches) frequently referring to Bidz as the best place to go.

I managed to profit a few hundred bucks over time after just a few hours of work so I have an idea of how this works from actually doing it myself.

I would simply like to get some more formal training to be able to profit more and do it more effectively and efficiently.

Let me know what you have to recommend.

You're going to stir up some folks but I agree with you. Some people don't always have something they're real passionate about. Even if they do, it doesn't mean it's profitable. Anyway, to answer your question... I'd focus on CPA marketing.

Yea I could see my position on affiliate marketing causing issues with some but lets be real, a lot of top marketers out there don't care about the product or the customer, it's all a numbers game.

I'm not advocating the use of black hat techniques to pull a quick one over on unsuspecting people however I don't mind directing them to some solution to a problem they're looking for even if it might not be the best (that's super subjective anyway).

Yea CPA is what I've had my initial success with, could you name any great resources or people to follow for this or any other marketers that focus on generating revenue from ANY niche not just niches that you are passionate about?

IMO gotta learn to crawl before you walk. It is a numbers game, but how you target people and present your content is the most important thing there is.

The problem is most people tend to jump into marketing online without first learning things along the lines of what makes a successful advertising campaign, and how to target the right demographic.

Truth be told, you don't need any formal training. What I would suggest though before you begin to wade through all of the BS is to read up on topics such as usability, user experience, market research, competitive intelligence, multi-variate testing, web analytics, copy writing, and consumer psychology.

Google should be a good start. From that point you should at least have a better understanding of how words should be crafted to engage a specific audience and how once you have that connection you can guide them into performing the actions you desire.

Sure you could always just read a guide and may even make something of it. However, that's not going to illustrate to you why it worked, or how to replicate and scale it out on your own.

Also, I think the search engine game is a waste of time. Don't bust your ass trying to service 5% of the internet. There's better ways to connect with people and gain traffic for conversions. Use what you learn from your self-education and begin with social media would be my advice.

To answer your question, the best training course that meets your criteria that I would recommend would be Commission Blueprint 2.0.

I know exactly what you mean about "find something your passionate about," it's good if you can work in markets that you like, but you certainly don't have to do it that way. I have no problem looking at what sells and building a site around it, you don't have to spend all your time on just one or two sites, build it, promote it little and often, and move on to the next.

You might find what you want in my WSO, I just simply show what's worked for me. Simple but very effective and don't worry about "following your passion" it doesn't matter if you're not that way inclined,

    all the best,
    Neil

Hell yeah! Absolutely perfect explanation right there.

That is exactly what I am finding as well.

All of my sites that I don't give a crap about make me money, however they only stick around for the short term because I lose interest in it.

Making a lot of money is not quite enough to keep you interested in a site.

On the other hand, if you were making $100,000/m on a niche site you hate writing about, that would be a different thing.

I think we could all muster up a little bit of effort to keep something like that going...

How about just grabbing a pen and paper and writing down the steps you took over the course of a few hours that generated a few hundred bucks of profit over time (like what you mention above)?

That's the worst it can ever be in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. What you might want to then do is challenge yourself to come up with ideas for making everything more efficient and effective. You can ask specific questions and see what responses you get.

I'm not saying more formal training is a bad idea, you have to do what you feel makes the most sense for you and your situation.

    Here's the simple way...

Diagram out your process and look for bottlenecks, the places that slow up the whole process. Maybe it's driving traffic, maybe it's converting opt-ins, maybe it's something else. But in 99.9% of the systems I've looked at, there are one or more bottlenecks.

Once you know where they are, you can seek specific learning/training to remove them.

Then you start the process over again.

If you want an easy-reading primer on the idea, go to Amazon and pick up a copy of "The Goal" by Eli Goldratt. His story focuses on a manufacturing plant, but everything in it applies to selling online, too.

Now I will attempt to actually answer your question:
You need to pick something more original than a high paying niche, or else you are simply competing with all the other people who are tempted by this path.

Please recommend the best AM resources...
The best resource is your own knowledge and experience.
    websites
The best websites are the ones you build yourself. :p
    guru's
Brian Tracy, why would you ever need anyone else?

I would simply like to get some more formal training...
    >>> Please, accept my apology, if my advice is wrong for you. <<<
    • Formal training in what exactly?
    • Techniques which worked in the past, but might be over-saturated now?
    • Advice from people who write great sales copy?
    • Why do they still need more money from you, if their techniques can work for themselves?
There are 1000's of affiliate programs, and no other person can replace or negate your need to cultivate your own personal experiences.

Damn, great responses guys. Sorry for making it look like I abandoned the thread (I was only away for a day ).

I appreciate all the resources that were recommended and insightful analyses' (is that right?) of my post.

AdInventive: Very good point there. If I had the ability (or desire) to consume tons of information at a fast pace this would be a great path to take. It's not the most practical path in my opinion but surely it would be very effective and I completely agree that having an idea of the underlying processes would be very helpful. Although I can't see myself starting there it would certainly be crucial for perfecting any revenue generating system that is already in place.

I will definitely take the 'screw the SE game focus on other more creative techniques like social media' comment to heart.

NeilC: I may look into your WSO but to be honest I always regret getting sucked into those offers. I can't wait till I get to the point where I have my own projects that are profiting and I know I can block out all the infinite amounts of information vying for my time and attention.

Interesting 'build, promote it a little and move on to the next' technique, will be considered.

SEOPoints: You know, that's a damn good question and frankly one I can't find the answer for. This is certainly some of the most logical practical advice. I have considered doing this same process for other offers however I'm always afraid that either the offer will expire, that my work won't result in any traffic/sales, that I'll fail I guess. Damn fear of failure, probably my biggest personal flaw.

Thanks for pointing out what should be an obvious strategy for me.

JohnMcCabe: Your post goes hand in hand with SEOPoints'. Thanks for the logical practical advice and book recommendation.

tbunch: Good call, however my current goal is to figure sh!t out myself before spending any more money hoping that some new information will help me make money. It's a bad trap that many people here are caught in and I'm trying to prevent it. I likely will join the second I start making reliable money on my own.

Happy_Balance: You have a very good point as well. The thing is however I am not adverse to working a 'job' at all. In fact I can and do enjoy work when my effort is directly related to how much money I can make (such as in my last 100% commission sales job). My true desire is not to 'not have a job', it is to be free to do what I want when I want. Sure an online job doesn't necessarily completely fulfill this but it is far more flexible than a regular job.

Great question about the formal training and I can't really answer it. Maybe I feel like 'formal training' of some sort will be that key I need to start achieving success.

I will definitely take the 'cultivating your own personal experiences' to heart, this loosely ties in with a couple of the other posts and I agree I think it is a great direction if I could just get myself moving that way consistently. (PS: Ill look into some of Brian Tracy's stuff)

Matt.Lake, ShelbyC: Thanks for the recommendations
