Scammers, Spammers And Jammers

The face you show to the public may end up being the one you wear to
bed at night even after the cold cream is put in place.

If you're wondering where that quote comes from, I'll keep you guessing for
a while before I tell you.

Internet marketing can be a wonderful thing. Imagine the life. I mean REALLY
imagine it.

You don't have to climb out of bed in the morning, drag your body to the
bathroom to wash up, pour some coffee down your throat, and finally make
your way to your car, fight traffic and then spend a day with a boss who
makes you sick to your stomach, only to have to fight that traffic all the
way back home.

And then you get to do it all over again tomorrow.

I'd rather put a gun to my head and slowly squeeze the trigger.

I was one of the lucky ones. I lost my job. I wasn't faced with the
decision of whether to keep it and be miserable or quit and find something
else to do with my life.

I was one of the lucky ones.

And the last thing I wanted to do was jeopardize my chance at a wonderful
life by doing something that would either force me to go back to work for
a boss or go out and buy that gun.

I was determined to be a jammer.

You're probably wondering what that is.

Well, in the music business, it's somebody who gets together with his
buddies to play some music. Nothing really organized. Just some good
natured fun and enjoyment of the music itself.

I used to jam with these guys who called themselves the Highboys, for
obvious reasons. I'd play keyboards, Paul would play flute, Mark would sing,
Mike would play drums, and Bob would just get high.

It was the most fun I ever had in my life as a musician. I didn't have a care
in the world. We were honest, did good music and didn't hurt anybody. If
we sold some stuff, great. If not, no big deal.

Okay, today, I have to take things a little more seriously because I have
a family to support.

But I still want to have fun.

I still want to be honest and help others.

If I make money, great. If I don't, I'll try something else.

What I won't do...(yes, we're coming to the nitty gritty) is resort to the
first two words in my title...scamming and spamming.

They say that spamming is profitable. If it wasn't, people wouldn't do it.

Well, it may be profitable, but it's certainly no way to build a reputation
where people look up to you and respect you as a marketer.

As for the scammers. Well, they have to move on after their scam, maybe
take on a new identity, and start all over again. You've all see this right
here at the forum.

I don't know. Call me crazy, but that just seems like way too much work.

I mean, isn't it easier to just run an honest business?

Sure, you have to put in more work to actually create something of value,
but constantly having to watch your back that somebody isn't going to
put a knife in it because you took them for 10K is NOT my idea of living
a carefree life.

Yeah, I'm a jammer. I like to have fun. What I do is fun. When it stops
being fun, that's when I stop doing it.

No matter how much money I make.

What about you?

Are you a jammer? I know that nobody here is going to admit to being
a spammer or a scammer. But like I said, we've all seen them here, without
mentioning any names.

Anybody wanna jam with me?

I make some great music and I have a lot of fun.

But most of all, I don't hurt people in the process.

To me...that's what it's all about.

Oh, and the quote...It's my very own.

Hi Steven, what's even funnier and that I REALLY don't understand
it's that sometimes being a scammer is MORE work then running an
honest gig. The trouble these guys go through to steel a few bucks
    and not get busted...

I always think to myself of what could of been if they funneled all
that energy (and time) to building something legit... many could
be outstanding business people, as the skills involved in scamming
are usually skills every successful business owner has... but used
    differently!

Anyhow, I'm glad it's not the majority!

    Jam On Steven!!!

    Regards, Pete

Great post, Steven! I'm sure you're right about spamming and scamming being much more work than running an honest biz.

I imagine any kind of crooked stuff (online or offline) is much more work because they have to figure out how to do it without getting caught (ideally) and then, because one never knows when or if they might get caught anyway, even 20 years down the road, they have to constantly watch their backs. What a dumb way to live!
