keyword ideas for a newbie

hi as the title suggests i am a newbie.
i see the wso for article submission and am thinking of taking up one of these services.
i just have a little bit of confusion. for those of you who have the seo experience this may be a silly question and may make you chuckle
when wanting to submit your url's for the copywriter to write how should i choose my keywords?
when you have to choose 3 or 2 keywords it doesn't sound like alot.
my landing page on my site is in my profile. i cant post the site here as i dont have enough posts but if you google alltradesuk you will find it.
any ideas on choosing my keywords would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Reaper -

The subject of keywords is extremely complicated but let me try and summarize -

    - Your main site itself (usually index.htm) should be optimized for your primary keyword

    - You will then add pages to the site which link back to the main index page. Each of these additional pages should be optimized for a related keyword. These are often called "long tail keywords"

    - The articles you submit to sites like eza can either link back to your primary index.htm file or they can link back to one of your "article pages" which in turn links back to your main page.

FOr instance - say your primary keyword is something like: saltwater aquariums - you would optimize your main index page for that keyword phrase, and then the article pages would be things like: maintaining a saltwater aquarium, setting up a saltwater aquarium, etc

    - Each of those additional phrases my not have a ton of search volume in and of themselves, however, if you continue to add pages, submit articles to eza with links back to them - after time google will see that you are truly building a site containing content and they will begin to send more and more traffic to you.

    - Do not try and do this all at once - try and do 1 article per day for the first 21 days at least for each site.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi...

Once you have chosen your niche, one of the first things you should do is proper keyword research. Now, you may find that based off of the resulting keywordphrases, you may not want to target this niche at all.

Proper keyword phrases selection can make or break your marketing efforts, right from the beginning. So make sure to choose your keywords wisely.

    Much Success,

thanks kate, that makes sense. i have my niche.
so off your advice i should use the google keyword tool to find keywords for my niche AND make sure that i have text/content on the respective page url's that relate to those keywords yes?
if i am correct on that, then, should i be looking to use keywords with lots of competition and searches or keywords with little competition and searches?
i gather that if i use the latter with little competition and searches it will be easier for my site to progress within google for those search terms? whereas if there were lots of competition and searches then it would be harder for me to up the page rank of my site?

    hi reaper,
you can use google keyword tool to find the best related keywords that perform well after deciding on your main keyword that you are targeting based on a number of factors like how many searches per month and level of competition etc. You can pick any number of related keywords that you want target

thanks zeze, i have downloaded the trial of market samurai. what has really really impressed me is even though i dont know how to use the software fully yet but its easy to see how much competition there is for the keywords which the google keyword doesnt tell me. so i definately think i need to target my keywords carefully.
