If you had to start over from scratch now

As I look back at my successes, I often wonder what it would be like if I had to start over right now with nothing. In many cases what I have now would probably not be nearly as easy to start, because I started at the right time a few years ago.

Sometimes I feel like people look at others who are successful and see the results of their success, but they don't know much about the steps that led to that success of the timing of the product release.

So I would say that if I had to start over now, I would not start a business like the one I have now because the timing wouldn't be right. I would instead focus on something that was still in its infancy, but had a good chance of growing in the future. Most likely I would look at some of the ideas presented on sites like techcrunch or google blog and try to find a way to develop my own niche (ex. a variation on foursquare). What about you?

if I had to start again one thing I would have done is joined the warrior forum much much much earlier. I came across the forum from time to time but took awhile to join it.

Sure I would do some stuff differently but I actually am really liking the way things are going for myself. Through a massive amount of self-development I have been able to attract bigger and better things in my life than I every could have imagined. So for me it has been about how I look at the future more than rethinking my past actions that has got me to where I am today.

First thing I would do: NOT BUY ANY FREAKING BOOKS! I still to this day find myself wasting money on random books that I know are not any useful, really annoying...

Second thing: Join the Warrior Forum; Join the War Room

Third thing: Sign up with ATS; promote, promote, promote! After I get to where I am making around 10k a month I would start investing into other businesses as well as outsource my business to professionals thus building a huge online empire within a few years time

Fourth: Invest into a profit free organizition I have wanted to set up since I was 14! It will bring homeless people off the street as well offer them training via vo tech schools to get a second chance at their life.

This is seriously something I have wanted to do for a long time. It was a wow factor when I saw this.

      But anyway...
If I had to start over, the one thing I would do is take action immediately! Not when I get some cash for hosting, training, or whatever I blamed it on, not when I get the day off from work. I would take action from the moment I spotted an opportunity and follow through with whatever I begin til the end unless it proves itself as worthless.

Erica, I would love it if you would pm me! We could talk about this and possibly bounce some ideas off each other. I would dearly love to hear what you had in mind as well as possibly telling you my plans!

If i were to start over from scratch right this instant, I would've headed over to this place quicker, and I wouldn't have stopped myself from dreaming big from the very first instant.

Only if you dream big do you shoot for it, and only when you shoot for it, you reach it.
    I've learnt that first hand..

  • If I had to start all over again I would take action much faster and not spend months buying and reading useless information.

It wasn´t until I took massive action that things started to happen.

There is the magic words I was going to use. As my wife still reminds me often, I get caught in learning cycles, and forget about the ACTION cycles.

Taking massive action consistently, would be the biggest thing I would change on a fresh start.

I would have found a good beginner course. I spent too much time looking at a lot of advanced stuff. I got overwhelmed by all the stuff out there and I didn't know where to start.

I wouldn't have to get tied up buying other peoples "how to make money products", I wouldn't try the spammy techniques which sounded too good to be true, I would know what works and what doesnt and do more things right first time... What I really would do is start building an email list straight away - essential imo.

I try not to think about how I should have done things differently, I am who I am today because of the choices I made along the way....So I guess it was supposed to pan out this way.

But I guess I would have got my butt in gear a lot earlier, I would have been more true to my passions instead of trying to conform to other peoples ideals.

    great question!

    Beth :-)

I agree that it is tough to be starting now in the internet marketing business. The competition is really strong. I think we just need to hang in there and gradually build our reputations. So hang in there.

i think i should start over anyway

i would select one method - build one site - in one niche - and not do anything other than working on making that site successful - then build on that.

I'd probably do it the same... After all I am the same guy :-)

But, I tell you what I wouldn't get into now -- make money online or biz opp niches.

I like the answer from the lady above...When the answers are clear, make a plan & stick to it.

I think most people who do eventually get going online, only do so when all the unasked, unformed questions they have in side them are answered.

A coach or mentor who has/is doing it successfully, is the way to go for sure.

I'm still of the opinion though that this industry continues to attract tourists by the million as if it is a gold rush as in days gone by!

For me, as I'm only getting going again after being almost inactive for a year, due to a close family member's near fatal illness, therefore I am technically starting over!

So, I have a bit of wisdom to draw upon & it's definitely these 4 points...
      1. Find & follow a Mentor/Tutor who is doing it successfully in your chosen subject/area & trust their advice & guidance, even though you are busting to have a look at all the new shiny stuff out there!
      2. Devise & focus very narrowly on your own plan, by unsubscribing from everything, yes, everything after finding out the metrics possible in your subject area to make your plan believable & do-able.
      3. Start a list as soon as possible & do ironing for neighbors or anything to get the money for a good autoresponder service!
      4. Then really hone in on your market & get inside their hearts to find out what they truly are seeking & create the exact answers for them & deliver this incredible value to them with clarity & ease of use, then back it up with outstanding service, by being reachable.
      That's my take on it

I am working hard now so I can go on to become an outstanding business owner delivering incredible products & service to my prospects & customers who joined me because they thought & hoped I could deliver for them!

Man, that is a huge responsibility, isn't it!

      Kindest Regards,
      Poppie/Mary!

I'd start by buying the spam.com domain name away from Hormel foods. Type the word spam into any search engine and see who comes up first. Think of the traffic! Give away 50% off spam coupons or even a free can of spam to everyone who signs up for your spam newsletter. You could even set up an affiliate program and sign up every spammer on the planet. They could give away free spam with their free spam. Just a thought.

If I had to start from scratch now and If I had no other option other than Internet Marketing, and considering that the knowledge I have gained so far is intact...

I would spend 90% of time doing research and 10% on execution.

In the past I have dropped too many projects in its infancy because I did not do enough research. I would get into it with enthusiasm and later find out some hard facts about it. Then I would start an another project and go through the same cycle. But due to probability some projects have succeeded without research on my part... but now I realize that I could have had a short cut to those successful projects if I had done enough research.

Basically my journey right from the fashion industry to poker industry has been a complete "fun" and "learning" journey. I have learned from lots of people about the SEO and Internet Marketing strategies, even sat hours with the programmers and got some knowledge of my product (building it from the scratch). I would definately not like to go back and restart as this journey has been a wonderful and remarkable one.

Wow, just had a rough day (spent the whole day at the California DMV) and glad to see there were some good discussions in this thread. Thanks to everyone for posting. I can see that people have different ideas about what it would mean to start over, but I do find a common thread in how we all like to think about starting anew.

In many ways we start over each day, and we are not the same person we were yesterday. I've always liked thinking in those terms. I am not defined by what I did previously, but by what I do right now.

    Hello Everyone,

I am a brand new internet marketer and I am starting from scratch. What it a good newbie course to consider to get of on the right foot? Like many of you have experienced, there is a LOT of information out there and it is confusing to navigate it all.

An advice would be very much appreciated.
