Paypal Refund - Really?

So my girlfriend bought a curious looking weight loss e-book about a week ago. She paid through paypal directly from the sales page.

In it he notes that after 4 days if you aren't satisfied you can get a full refund. Well it's been over 4 days and he says she can get a refund if she sends the transaction receipt AND the receipt from the grocery list inside the e-book.

Well she had all the groceries at her house already so there is no receipt, can this guy actually not refund her?

I suspect you're talking about the 18 in 4 diet. If so you might want to read this: James Zeta 18in4 Complaints - scam - not honoring refund

  • You can dispute it with PayPal. Well, at least they may close his account.

That is exactly the diet plan! He is a scammer.

I mean I'm a healthy person and goto the gym all the time, but the girlfriend got suckered into this "diet".

What can I do to get her money back??

Just dispute it with Paypal. In the case of the sale of an electronic item it is very rare that Paypal won't side with the customer. Of course, you should give the guy a chance to pay a refund first, then if you get nowhere I'm sure that Paypal will set it right for you.

Shrewd sellers, (and this guy might be one considering he's apparently been in business a while and had a TON of complaints and STILL seems to be taking payments through PayPal), know how to work the PayPal system as it relates to non-tangible goods. If the seller knows how to word the response to the dispute, your odds of winning are slim to none. Try it anyway, because at this point, it's the only shot you've realistically got of getting the money back.

These dopes give all us e-book sellers a bad name. There is no mention anywhere on his site about having to also submit grocery receipts to get your refund:

When you file a dispute with PayPal make sure you mention that no where on his website does he mention you need those receipts and that you've tried to resolve this with the merchant. So yea file that PayPal dispute.

    I actually visited the website:
    Code:
    http://www.18in4.com/
Like what Alan mentioned, the guarantee doesn't involve any receipts. So just file it with PayPal and see what happens.

Pay pal almost always sides with the customer, if he fights it paypal will most likely freeze his account temporarily.

yea, if he has money in his account, paypal will side with you and return your money. Physical products are the only products that you may not get a refund on. Thats why you should always enter shipping info into paypal when shipping an order. Thats about the only thing paypal can look at in disputes, besides feedback from each party.

Clearly some of you have never read Paypal's refund policy.

That sucks... but it was only $27. Better to learn on a smaller loss than on the $1700 I spent on a laptop and got scammed on.

I thought there was a law of some sort that 30 days
had to be honored no matter what.

Or is that just offline stuff?

there Is, at least with credit, but many don't want to honor it. If worse comes to worse, you CAN dispute with your bank, but paypal may retaliate by doing something like closing the account.

BTW I would view ANY claim of a refund on an "information product" that is less than 30 days as a SCAM!

        I agree completely.

Why would anyone be afraid to offer a guarantee at least that long? What are you running from? If someone's not happy with my show (part-time magician) I don't want your money.

"But what if someone rips you off?" At least with the magic offline biz I can pick my clients so I understand that can be different. But online? Don't waste your time and health worrying about folks that will rip you off.

Offer a strong guarantee if you believe in your stuff, at least thirty days, and stand behind your product if it's everything you claim.

Hey I'm Eric and I'm new to this forum.

This is a huge scam. My girlfriend fell for this scam a couple of weeks ago and has yet to be refunded. You would be a very lucky soul to recieve a refund.

Call paypal, report the transaction and make a dispute. Screenshot all the necessary proofs that you can get (to convince paypal that You are not trying to scam).

Hopefully, you will either get your money back. That is often how PayPal are helping everybody that aren't satisfied with the they that they've bought.

If not, his account will get limited.

    Good luck!

Don't worry about that. In fact, you can dispute it with PayPal. I think PP will give you a reasonable result.
Remember, try to make a detailed research before purchasing good online and keep receipt all the time in case of some unexpected troubles.
    Good luck! ^_^

I must agree with Tim Carter on this on.

When it comes to digital products they due side with the seller because its not a physical product and you can't really prove to them you didn't receive it. I have been scammed many times and thought that PayPal would help me only to find out that they don't deal with tangle goods.

In that note, your best bet is to file a dispute throw your bank, they will over power PayPal and many times run in your favor. The thing with this is, always use a credit card when making transaction throw PayPal in digital goods. This way if it turns out to be a scam you can just go throw your bank to get your money back.

    I hope that helps everyone.

If the product isn't exactly as described you are probably protected by the laws in your own country (In the UK its the trade descriptions act)

Remind paypal of the laws and ask them for written confirmation as to why these laws do not apply in this case.

I can see above the guy offers a 10 day money back guarantee, if you show that to paypal they should force the refund any way.

I filed a dispute actually last week to this guy and he said "hasn't been 4 days" so then I cancelled that one and tried another one yesterday after it has been 4 days and everytime I try to dispute it says "complaint already filed with this transaction".

Now what? lol I cancelled the previous one and now am disputing again but paypal doesn't seem to care.

Should I just call? (I've heard horror stories about calling paypal..)

          God damn paypal.

I mean it was $27 but some people would love to make that kind of money in ONE day. This guy is a scammer.

Goto google and type in "lose weight in one week" or "lose 10 pounds in one week".

He's either on top or to the side, wonder how much he pays for those spots??

Why would you cancel a dispute? Paypal doesn't react immediately as it takes some time for them to investigate the dispute and allow the seller to answer. Submitting multiple times doesn't work. You may be out of luck with this one.

It's interesting the title is 4 days - but the refund mentioned is 10 days. To me it's an example of the amazing ability of people to believe the impossible.
        lose 18lbs in 4 days - earn $10k in 30 days....no difference.

Not even mentioning the fact that you are then 'forced' to buy groceries in order to get a refund so it probably costs a hell of alot more than that in total just to find out it doesn't work.

Paypal has been and always will be more on the side of the buyer rather than the seller. This is what we have to keep in mind everytime we do any transaction by paypal. No matter if you are a buyer or a seller.

If you are a buyer well and good. If you are a seller then try to sell genuine products ONLY.

So coming to your case, you can directly ask a refund back from paypal and open a dispute (case). You will be instantly contacted with a paypal representative who will, most likely try to resolve the dispute by asking the seller to refund.
The seller should very well know that if he messes up with paypal for this one transaction, his account might get blocked or frozen and he will not be able to deal with paypal again, so he will accept for the refund to be given to you

Yes. If you are not taking it seriously now, then its okay, but atleast a good lesson to learn if such things repeat in the future

If you had bought it from Ebay, you would have got more advantage as a buyer.

First of all, people bringing money INTO the transaction, or ANY transaction involving PayPal, BUYERS have more leverage. If you do not agree with this, you do not sell anything online or else you would know this.

PayPal is a transaction service, not a banking service. Call PayPal (or e-mail them) and demand your refund. Say it was a bogus digital product, and you want your money back or you will call the bank/credit card company where the money was pulled from.

I'll put money on you getting your money back.

In your case, you will have to call in, because you have already opened up and closed a dispute which is apart of their automated process.

          Absolutely WRONG!

I sell tons on Paypal since 2005. Sellers are favored on non tangible products. If the seller escalates to a claim and says "digital download" the dispute is ended in the sellers favoe - ALWAYS!
