I was testing something out today, and in order to get a result I wanted, I typed in "search engine" into Google. And according to Google, at least my version of it, Google itself doesn't seem to rank very well for that phrase. I found it nowhere on the first page, and the first Google page that appeared for me was SERP #11 for Google Custom Search. Google.com didn't show up until position #37.

Do you think they've penalized themselves? Will they be sending Matt Cutts flowers and chocolate, begging him to flip one of his evil little switches? ... Do you think they will have to wait as long as we do for a response to a re-inclusion request?

Yahoo has them at #2 ... behind Yahoo, of course.

Bing has them at #21. .... What's going on here?

Their title tag says simply "Google." They have no meta description.

In Yahoo their description says, "Google allows users to search the Web for images, news, products, video, and other content."

In Bing it says,"Develops Internet search technology."

And in Google it lists sections: "Books Finance Translate Scholar Blogs · YouTube Calendar Photos Documents Reader Sites."

Can anyone verify such crazy results? Or is it just me?

It sounds like Google needs to put a bit of time into getting some backlinks. A few ezinearticles should to it
