Google Ranking: Which is actually REAL?...SEO Experts | Google Tool Advice Needed

Hey warriors

I would be grateful regarding some advice I need regarding checking your google ranking and actually finding one which is true and real...

some of you may already know...google is now 'personalising' the search results of every user regardless if they are signed into their account or not...based on their activity and searching habit...

So the question is...how the heck do I actually know what REALLY are my websites are ranking for their particular keyword am doing my analysis for?...

I have come across some tools online...and tried always signing out of my google account as a precaution too to try and get the most valid and real un-biased and genuine google results for the searches am performing...

problem is they all seem to be different on their analysis and results produced...which is very confusing!

I'd be grateful what fellow warriors are also doing/using to help them do this easier aswell

One of the ones I use is depersonalize Google

Hope this is useful...and thanks in advance for your sharing and feedback too

Search results have "ALWAYS" been different for other people.. So instead of just wondering about my ranking I would spend that time on building more traffic to my site through other means besides a search engine...

People spend far to much time on wondering about what their ranking is, what their pr is, what their competition is doing, and etc ...

You tell ' em Google Hater...

Seriously though, Most of the results will at least give you an idea of where your site is ranking. If you arent at least showing up in the top 5 consistently, keep plugging away until you are.

I don't focus on SEO as much as many people do, it is great traffic, but not the only or even the best way to get it, just the easiest to do and be lazy..

Well, there is no "real and true" as you seem to be referring to it -- i.e. as if there were some objective truth. If the results are personalized, and they are, then it's ALL subjective. To try to "depersonalize" them does not get you any closer to the truth because real searchers searches are not depersonalized (as long as they are signed into Google, of course ... and more and more people are these days).

The more that Google gets its hand in the web, the more personalized the results will be. By that I mean, the more that people have to sign up for a Google property, like YouTube, the more they will be signed into Google without even realizing it.

People here know when they are signed into Google and when they aren't, and that that makes a difference, but your average person has no idea whether they're signed into Google or not, and I'm sure the vast majority don't care.

Yeah I think that is very true...and relevant too....(for some of my niches)...thing is tho...sometimes (and the niches) I am looking to rank in seo for is

the searcher will typically not do a search for 'product name x' ...s google will not have given them the opportunity to auto personalise their results based on that keyword before...

so before they get used to say looking at the top 3 ranked sites for that keyword and check them out...once done regardless if my site is later in a better seo optimised vs them..it wont matter because they have spent time their before...google will personlise themfrom prior searching

that is why am determined to make sure am right up there...from the begining...

Try this for single checks: Scroogle Scraper

For multiple keyword I use this: Rank Tracker - Track Your Search Engine Rankings Easily!

Anyway the only way to avoid this problem is ranking first!

Why don't you just turn off customized web search ?

If you have it turned off and you're from the same country you'll find search results are almost identical.

I can correlate my exact positions on phrases with anybody in the US or UK (depending on the proxy ) and it's perfect.

Just make sure you're signed out of Google.
    Do a search
    Click Web History (top right)
Then click on Disable customisations based on search activity.

    Job done.

The results you're seeing are your true positions in the SERPS.

Wondered about this problem quite a few times these past few months.

Generally, SERPS vary from country to country. Example, I'm in India - so my default search engine is google.co.in which gives me different results than google.com.

To get the best idea of your results, first know your target country, and then open up a new browser (with you NOT logged in) and do a search.

Example, if my target market is the US, I'll add a '&gl=US' to the search string

If your target market is the US, then you can also try SEOBook's "Rank Checker Tool" which I use daily to track my rankings.

Or just hook your chosen browser up with a nice plugin/extension and wang some proxies in there.

  • It's a moving target. Need to put your focus on developing strategies that bring real people to your offer and less focus on arbitrary rankings.
