Google Making backlink changes?

Go to yahoo and check your backlink count. Over night sites with 4000 backlinks are reduced to 1400. My personal site was on page 3 with 1500 backlinks out of 3,000,000 results and today it can be found on page 8 with only 150 backlinks...

Have any of you experienced this too? Is this common and google will at some time start noticing all the backlinks again?

This is not just my site but everyones who has been effected by some google change.

Yahoo explorer only shows backlinks that yahoo finds, not google. May be it is possible that they lost some backlinks in yahoo and google, so number of backlinks dropped in site explorer and rankings also dropped in google.

  • Sounds like the google dance, and doesn't necessarily mean anything (google is always changing the number of backlinks it shows, also context related searches, etc).

Has your actual traffic changed? Also, monitor what happens within 2-3 weeks, and it will give you a much better insight.

    Cheers!

I have experienced the google dance before but have never seen every site at the same time effected by it and this drastic.

I use yahoo as a true indicator of back links as I believe that even though google does not show all of them, they still count.

InternetSuccess001: yeah I'm holding out for a week or so to see if things go back to how they used to be yesterday.

    if not...

Just have to see what the pages that stuck have in common and find other similar pages to start adding back links on.

hi derek, i can understand how that can be a bit un-nerving...I had a site do the same thing to me. I decided to then ignore the site rankings for about a week or 2 and then it came back to page 1. Hopefully this cheers you up a bit

You're not alone. I'm seeing major re-shuffling at Google the last 48 hours or so, across many searches. Something's afoot. Hope it's just a Dance maneuver and nothing monumental (remember Florida? - EEEK!).

This could be due to the fact that search engines are looking for social validation, so if your backlinks are not from social media sites then this may be why...
