I tried a similar tactic on an actual sales page once. I got a lot emails complimenting my writing skills, sense of humor, and other factors . . . but the conversion rate was horrible. I abandoned it for a more traditional sales page in short order.

Well yea it all boils down to conversions at the end of the day. But I bet if these sales letter could convert in our business we would see them all over the place and be actually happy doing them.
