Is anyone else getting this, it's really starting to annoy me. It's at about 1-2 a day at the moment, but find the thought of it escalating is quite worrying.

I'd hate to lose my skype service because I was sick of the spam.

I've been getting Skype spam since I first downloaded the service. Most days, it's only one or two so not that big a deal to me. I just block/report abuse each time.

I get a lot more spam in my email box than Skype so it's not that much of an annoyance. I used to get more using other IM clients.

    Hi Kim,
Yes there seems to have been a surge recently in skype spam with all the 'old favourites' like viagra and dodgy software etc. Bit annoying I agree.

A block/report generally gets the account trashed in pretty quickly.

I guess I've been pretty lucky because I don't get a whole lot. However my wife gets tons and we can't figure out why.

What annoys the crap out of me is someone who requests a contact exchange with me via skype and they just put in something like... "warrior forum", like that alone is supposed to be some kind of magical thing that will make me say "SURE AS HELL BABY COME ON INTO MY HOME AND LET'S PAAAARTAAAAYYY!!!"

    "warrior forum" WTF?

How about something a little more concrete or specific like, "hi, I am active on the warrior forum and I think your opinion about XYZ is interesting because of ABC. I'm involved in 123 and if you've got a minute, please check it out."

Not... "warrior forum"... like it's some kind of Masonic handshake that's supposed to grant you access to the VIP lounge or something.

People and their degenerate social graces simply slay me.

I do the same, I also send Skpy an email support, to let them know that I'm not too happy with it. The more we complain directly to them, the more of an impact we will have IMHO

Can you roll back to the older version? I much preferred that one!

You can block the spammer but there's just another one right behind.

I get very little spam...thank God.

(Great...now the floodgates are gonna open because I opened my mouth.)

Fortunately, I only use Skype to converse with students and the rest of the
          time I'm offline.

I usually recognise either the name or the avatar when that happens, because it tends to happen after an exchange in some thread or other.

      Hi,
It is a bit of a problem at the moment but one that can be easily dealt with.

I like to be accessable to colleagues and team members and it s when these people start spamming me that really annoys me. They get the same treatment as someone who tries to sell me something on Facebook. LOL.

That's very funny! My skype spam is all hotties and girlie contacts. I can't figure out whether to be offended or to think it's funny. :p

I use the BLOCK button on all the spam, but there's really no good way to control it, and I do agree that it's getting worse.

If you go on the Skype forums, this seems to be a problem for a lot of users. I have been using Skype for years and use it many times a day with no probs, the exception being ver 4. Clunky interface and prone to spam.

I rolled back to version Skype 3. The last good ver 3 build was 3.8.0.188 - I am now spam free and running just fine for the last 6 months.

You can download old versions of Skype here:

Old Version of Skype Download - OldApps.com

Make sure you do a virus scan just to be safe (good practice) - but this was recommended via the Skype forums, so it is good to go.

Just Click "Search For Users" stick a search query term and there you go. "internet marketing" "mlm" etc...

Then you just start going down the list 1 by 1. Just like the old AOL spammers used to do.

I use Yahoo Messenger for chatting and PC to PC call and Onesuite for VoIP calls to landlines and mobile phones.

I just checked and still have 2.8. I guess I'll keep that version ;-)

I do get maybe a handful of spams a week max, and just block them. Mostly viagra, and software ads.

And then the occasional ad requests wtih NO info on the person.

      oh well....

I receive an occasional Skype Spam, but many more in Yahoo Messenger, and Microsoft Live Messenger.

The only messenger I have never received spam in is Google Talk.

ah...ICQ, that brings back memories. Haven't used it in years.

I prefer to leave my messengers unrestricted. I may need to report spam on a regular basis, but I also get the opportunity to chat with some really great people, who are contacting me because of common interests.

An update to the skype spam. There is a new phishing scam going on now.

Yesterday I got a message from someone on my contact list, someone I know.

The message asked me to log into Skype and check something. At the time I was in the middle of some things (like to multi-task), so I went to the site and logged in. Big mistake. After logging in, my Skype access was gone, registered email changed, etc.

The message was from someone who's account was hacked, so I ended up being locked out of mine.

I contacted Skype and they are on it. Still waiting on the password reset to come up.

Be careful with this. I wasn't paying attention and got bit.

    Thanks,

    John
