Anyone Ever Lose Interest....

In watching a launch unfold?

This is not a rant so, please don't take it as one.

Lately, I have been waiting for 2 specific products which have been advertised for probably the last 2 months. Every week I tell myself, this
is going to be the week, I'm going to be able to get my hands on that
baby, but alas, just more promotion of the product instead of the actual
launch.

Now, one product I just said the hell with and bought an alternative
as it was a piece of software and there were other options in the
market for me to get. The other I'm still waiting on and have decided
to give it another week before I buy an alternate product.

How long is too long when it comes to launches?

They must be doing something right if they have you that frustrated and chomping at the bit to buy their products. lol

But ya, I've had that happen before also.
Its probably not so much a matter of their timing as it is your timing though. Sure YOU are really ready to buy their product and would of without the hype/launch but the overall general market may not of.
Its all a numbers game and while they might of lost you as a customer the numbers behind proven launch techniques don't lie.

Almost everything you do in marketing is going to rub some people the wrong way however its the bottom line that counts in the end. If some people get rubbed the wrong way or decide to buy elsewhere but your actual sales numbers are higher then its usually worth it.

Yeah, I hear what your saying, but we are not talking about Traffic Secrets or Mass Control here...

Also, I'm certainly not trying to say that what they are doing is wrong. It just seems as though they might be dragging it out a little bit long and not giving enough information about the actual product, especially because there are competitors that are already in the market place that provide a similar product.

So, if you hype the hell out of something for a couple of months saying it does X,Y, and Z, but are not close to launching. Your customers are getting emails and seeing sales pages that also say that they do X,Y, and Z. Maybe my thinking behind this is wrong. I don't know, I just started thinking about it after I just gave another man my money

        Hi Jeremy,

I certainly know one of the products you are talking about, as I have been heavily involved in the marketing of it. But sometimes with software, longer can be better, meaning it has been tested more thoroughly in beta as this software has.

I'm hoping its also the one you are holding out for, and it WILL launch on the 12th

        Thanks

        Darren

I think I know which one you are talking about and it is one of the products I was referring to. Unfortunately, I think It is the product
that I found an alternative for. That doesn't mean I might not grab
it as well, but I just got tired of seeing "coming soon" instead of "buy now".

There is no doubt in my mind that both of the products that I was talking about will be GREAT PRODUCTS, but once the benefits were presented to
me I started getting anxious to put them to use. This lead me to start
          looking at other alternatives.

I'm a little weird I guess, I just don't like to wait. lol

            Hi,

Ever notice how the really huge product releases from really huge companies (EG Sony video editing software for example) don't (in general) utilise the 'building up anticipation' and 'pre-launch' tactics?

Why would they (allegedly) leave so much money on the table?

Personally, I find that the amount of pre-launch build-up applied to a product is directly related to the actual usefulness of the product -

            More hype = less useful

            Less hype = more useful

Therefore, because my buying habits adhere to this rule, I very rarely lose interest in a launch because it's taking too long.

It wouldn't surprise me if these huge companies deliberately conduct their releases (new or upgrades) in this quiet, reserved manner in order to distance themselves from other products that marketers feel the need to hype up, because it gives them an air of confidence.

I am in the same situation as Jeremy

I do not know if it is the same product but I am no longer interested in the anticipated product.

Another item I bought into was launched last week and completely failed to work in either vista.XP, mozilla,IE,safari and any combination of these.

So The icon sits on my desktop as a reminder that I need to think before I buy.

I am testing a low hype product launch at present with some success but of course if I feel the sales are dissappointing you could be hearing of a bells and whistles launch coming from me very soon

I have to agree. There is one launch at the moment that would have had my money a month ago, but now I've gone kinda cold on the whole idea.

Hey J Man...sorry to hear your frustrations being vented...

I can't speak for the specifics..cuz I don't have a friggin' clue as to what launch or product you're referring too...for real.

    That's because I don't care. For real.

    I do NOT CARE.

Please don't take this wrong......but why DO YOU CARE?

More importantly, why would you allow any third party to piss you off so much you have to vent about it? You're bigger then that, bro.

You'se need to ask yourself why you really give a shit about why he or she is jerking with you... and or why you'se care. True.

I'm willing to take the heat for my spin....but here's my honest thoughts....

As a marketer, my only objective is to sell something to someone...honorably....and make money doing so.

The day I let another marketer and HIS OR HER LAUNCH STRATEGIES get my shorts in a knot.... and upset me-----I know that my problem isn't THEM....it's ME.

The other guys out there are never gonna pay our light bill. Never.

And if for some reason...so and so guru...jerks around on some launch.....don't get mad...get EVEN

    DON'T BUY IT. FOR REAL!

But don't waste time and energy being reactive to what some third party dude is doing. Worry about what you'se are doing. Cuz you're all that matters in the big picture.

We all need to start focusing more on our own efforts rather then looking outside ourselves for some holy grail that doesn't exist..cuz when you'se do that...you give up your power from the jump street.....cuz you hand it over to some third party who is never going to care about you as much as you do.

    As for me?

I don't buy nothin' that can't be delivered ASAP. And there isn't anything out there I need so badly...that my career ends without it......No matter how great the sales copy is. Cuz I determine my own destiny every single day I am lucky enough to wake up.

That's why I don't get pissed over launches that jerk and jack my time...cuz I just don't participate. Too busy.

I'm too busy selling....to worry about the some guy who is never going to make me as much money as I'm gonna make for myself.

There are far too many good warriors out there who need to man or woman up....and take all this knowledge they have in their heads, and hop off their asses and put it to use.

This safety blanket mentality of always looking for one last key to the puzzle is a puzzle that never gets solved. Because there is no end all product that will ever solve all your problems......because the upsell never ends.

You can destroy these guys who piss you off by simply cutting the chord and selling something. And when you do....you'll never look back.

I've lost interest in most IM launches simply because there's very little of anything that's new or unique anymore. That's the problem when people keep preaching to just do what works and copy what other people are doing.

As far as the general idea of launches, i've got nothing against the process. I think Apple is a very good example of a company that knows how to build anticipation and buzz for their product launches. Movie studios also do this really well. Just look at Batman The Dark Knight's viral campaign leading up to the release date.

In my opinion, the problem isn't the idea of a launch process, but rather the lack of creativity behind most of them right now.

      Hey Vince,

This in no way "pissed me off". I guess I was thinking of this more from a marketing perspective than a rant or anything else.

I do get the gist of what you were saying though
