How To Build A List Using Twitter (This Works Quickly)

I have been using twitter for months and at first I didn't really get what it was all about. I now use it as a major source of targeted traffic for my lists. I thought I would share the process with you so you can also benefit.

First of all if you don't have a twitter account yet then go and sign up for one.

Once you have your account you need some followers who will be interested in your offering. I have a free guide to blogging on one of my blogs and direct people to that from that specific twitter account.

OK so say your niche is muscle building. Go to twitter and type in "muscle building" to find the authorities in that niche. You need to follow these authorities and also follow their followers too. The key to fast follower building though is to find the responsive tweeters rather than the ones who only use it now and again.

Look for the ones who have tweeted within the past 24 hours and follow them. Do this every day until you have built up at least 2000 followers.

If the ones you follow don't follow you back within 3 days then unfollow them. You only want followers who are interested and who will react to your tweets.

Whilst you are gaining followers tweet interesting things about the niche, find news articles about it and link to them, tweet your own experiences (if you have any!) and just generate some interest.

At this stage don't try to sell to them.

In between building followers you need to set up a blog for muscle building. Look for a url with muscle building in it somewhere...i.e. toptenmusclebuildingtips.com - you get the idea.

Set up wordpress on the blog and find a relevant theme.

Add some RSS feeds to the blog for muscle building to get some auto posts going and also add your own content. After about 10 days you should have a nice blog with good content.

Now add a subscribe optin box using aweber and offer a free gift for people who subscribe. You could find a PLR ebook and make it your own for example.

OK now you have at least 2000 active followers on twitter start tweeting the link to your blog - just vary the content of the tweets - i.e. "Look at my new blog all about muscle building" .

Your followers will come and look as you are not selling to them and will opt in to your offer.

Once you have built a good list you can then market to them with CPA offers, clickbank products etc etc.

Just keep building the followers as before and before you know it you have a sizeable list to market to!

Hope that's useful.

Cheers
Keith

Hi James I am following you now on my main twitter account at pearlydean.
How long did it take you to get your followers?

I have around 22,000 on the pearlydean on which has taken me about 6 months but haven't blasted it so I get a better class of follower

      Thanks for that!

I think people still don't realise the power of Twitter yet but what can you do!

It builds some nice lists for me so I am quite happy with it.

I don't get Twitter. It just seems like one big spamming network to me. Not doubting that you are building a healthy list from it, just can't get my head around it.

Hi Bravo - yes it does attract the spammers but so does every other medium that is popular. People don't stop using email because of spam!

You just have to look through the noise to see that there are like minded people there too and are happy to connect with you if you have something useful to say....or just tell lots of jokes like I do!

Good point. You must be doing something right. Every time I have tried to get some Twitter followers, they all end up promoting their stuff to me.
They are supposed to be buying my stuff!?

I never thought about increasing my twitters followers. To have 2000 twitters following me will be awesome. It looks like I'm going to have to spend a little more time on twitter. Thanks for your advice.

      Hi

A very simple plan, and one which you doesn't compel you to spam, as a lot of methods do.
It's a numbers game: how many followers you get (to stick) will determine how successful you are.

I do something very similar but I focus it on building a local list for the offliner niche. I take it a step further and have the rss feed also build on Facebook and LinkedIn. I also use Hoot Suite and my news articles are syndicated to all three at once.

You can add people every day, but to build up to 2000 people as quickly as possible will have your account suspended by Twitter very quickly. Especially if you unfollow your unfollowers every 3 days.

You can do it manually or you can use a service. Either way.. I say stretch it a little longer to ensure protection of your account.

I didn't say to build up 2000 followers aggressively as senatl suggests and do not advise unfollowing all every 3 days either. Just use some common sense and stay within the twitter limits...its 1000 actions a day which include tweets, follows etc.

Using this method I have built 6 twitter accounts recently in different niches and built lists from all of them - the average followers are around 4,300 on each account.

Also in response to Oprah saying that twitter is old news according to John Reese...read the post about this from Kevin Riley who is a major player and uses twitter as a main marketing tool.

If you don't understand how to use it then leave it alone is my advice!

Hello yes I agree twitter is good for follows have over 4k in 2 accounts but the prob is most aren't interested in entering your market just advertising to you to get followers is easy and they auto follow you but to get them to join your list outside of twitter is hard I reckon I have maybe 20 persons outside of 20 look out my business and maybe 1 or 2 join and build the list but that is it I guess I'm missing something? ALso if I follow more than 200 I'm blocked from follwing anymore always? So following like 200 every 3 or 4 days is great but no more, well for me in both accounts?

Not quite sure how you work out who is not following you without spending heaps of time doing it. Is there a quick method?

Thanks for the great advice Keith. I've only been using twitter for a short while myself and I'm still getting the hang of it really and learning how I can use it more effectively. Reading quality posts like this definitely helps.
