Directory Submissions - best yet cheapest way

I have a new site - not IM at all. In fact a website for a band I manage!

I am applying all my IM tricks to see how we do.

I need to submit it to as many directories as possible.

Is that still worth it?

How do you do it quickly and cheaply?

If I use an outsourcer - who do you tust to do that job well?

Incansoft.com has a directory bot that does the job and doesn't cost a lot. You will be busy filling out captchas though. I slowed it down to just one thread of processes at a time (default is 4). You have to set that before you start. I was working on something else while it was submitting and would just pause to fill out the 'are you human' parts when they came up.

I'm not sure how effective it is these days. I submitted three sites about 14 months ago, got about 180 emails back saying that I would get an email if the site was approved for submission. So far have just had a single email back saying that. (sigh)

So definitely don't pay big bucks for the service. Maybe don't even bother. I'm not feeling really enthusiastic about it myself right now.

Directory submissions - especially those with capchas,
are probably worth doing... but they are not a complete
SEO plan by a long shot.

You need to be building backlinks from many different
    sources.

I've been using automated submitters for a long time -
they are no substitute for quality content. 6-10 years
ago you could submit any kind of crap and get some
traffic. Now the internet is no longer a novelty and
people won't engage with dull, poorly-conceived, or
    poorly presented content.
