I can't get in to my Wordpress Blog...Help Please!

I know, I know...stupid problem.

I uploaded the WP version from my local computer and it generated one of those non-sense passwords. I wrote it down and told WP to 'remember me' so I thought all was well.

Well, it 'forgot me' and now I can't get in! I tried the gibberish that I wrote down, but I must have transposed a letter or something.

I filled out the thing where it is supposed to email you a new password, but it's been over an hour now.

Any ideas? Can I find the password in one of the admin files? I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

Thanks,
Steve

The password is in the database but it is encrypted so that will no do you any good. I am sure that you email address is stored somewhere in the database as well, I would try finding that and making sure it is correct and trying the "forgot" feature again

Common trick (not sure it will work here)
Create a new account with a new password
Copy the encrypted password in the database from the new account to the old account.

Other things to look at in the DB:
email address, mail server, etc to make sure they are valid.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I have one that gives me problems getting logged in. Even when I have the right password. I found that if I leave off the last /, so it is just www.mysite/blog/wp-admin (with no / after) I can get in.

Maybe that will work for you as well.

    1. Log in to Cpanel and choose PHPMyAdmin.

    2. Click on your Wordpress database to the left.

    3. Now click on the wp_users table to the left.

    4. Click the Browse tab (top of right side).

    5. You should see your user name in the record displayed near the bottom of the right hand side. You'll see user_login and user_pass among other fields. Click the pencil on the left side of that record - that's to edit the record.

    6. In the table displayed, in the Value column for user_pass, type whatever you want your password to be.

    7. In the Function column just to the left of the Value column, choose MD5 from the dropdown.

    8. Now click Go at the bottom of the screen. This will load the encrypted value of your new password into the database.

You're done - log in to Wordpress as normal, using the new password you entered.

I didn't realize that MyPHPAdmin does that. But Jeff's right, just find a way to MD5 encrypt your new password and put it in place of the old password in the database.

Or, if you didn't do anything to the site yet and can't figure that out, just delete all the tables and reinstall wordpress.
