E-mail marketing questions

Hello all, I've recently invested some money into advertising to get email addresses for people looking for information in my sepecific niche (working from home/online jobs), and I have a few questions.

1) I'm paying roughly $1 per email (for my specific niche). Is this too much?
2) How often should I e-mail them trying to sell a product/get a lead?
3) How much income can 1000 e-mail addresses bring, assuming I do a good job with e-mail creation.

Thanks for your time!

EDIT: All email addresses are opt-in from a landing page I created
.

  • I think if you pay someone to be in your email list, anybody can get in there and that doesn't mean they are interested with your niche, they are interested with the money. So, instead of paying them, you can offer them somthing for free that is specific to your niche. For instance a free report, ebook etc. So, only those who are interested will join to get that free offer.

Ok I'll try to answer your questions but it's difficult.

    1. Depends how you got these people's email addresses..if they are opt-in or double opt'in to your list and you have a killer product you can convert each $1 into into even a 5 cents profit then no.
    2. You need to test what and when you email them. Many people have different idea's but only you can find the right one that works for both your list and you.
    3. It could bring nothing or even a loss but on the other hands 1000 double opt-in leads that you treat right could give you a 6 figure income a year. No one can tell you I'm afraid.

    I'll ask some tough questions...

    1. How did these people get added to the list you're talking about?
    2. Do they know you personally or through business? Meaning have you ever had prior contact with them before this emailing campaign got kicked off?
    3. Did YOU collect the emails through ethical means or are you BUYING the right to email these people through a 3rd party who charges you each time you send an email?
    4. Do you know if these "email addresses" really belong to real people or if they are possibly just old forgotten addresses or made up addresses?

There are a ton more questions... Have you built any kind of rapport with this list of "names" before selling to them? Do you know if they have the habit of buying through the means you are using to sell to them i.e. email and in that niche?

Are they opted in by choice or were their email addresses harvested without their consent? The answers to all of these questions will give you a perfect picture into what to expect and what you're doing wrong and if you're wasting money or not.

If the answers point to your sending unsolicited commercial messages to these people, that is actually spam and unethical and even illegal in some countries. It is called SPAM and many people hate it others are indifferent or uninitiated. Whatever the case if it is SPAM it's NOT email marketing, it's SPAM. And they are totally different one is done with permission and done ethically the other is done without regard for the privacy of others.

The latter is usually unproductive in the short or long term. As for the $1 per head, consider spending that cash on valid advertising like stumble upon ads, you'll get a far better deal too... $1 gets you TWENTY (20) NON-SPAMMED eye balls... I'm guessing that should be far more attractive to you... You will need to build a content rich or otherwise highly valuable site to get the best results from stumble upon but compared directly to what you're doing, it could most likely be far better dollars spent in my book.

    Cheers

The incentive you offer to get these email addresses will directly affect
whether you make back your investment or not. If you are offering pure
information based on your niche then you'll get good quality leads, but
if you are offering an incentive that have little to do with your list
like a chance to win an iPod then $1 per lead is too expensive.

As to how often you email them, you should keep to what you
promised them when they first signed up. Did you promise them
daily tips? Then daily is the frequency.

Are you trying to sell them directly then you start frequent at
first and get less frequent towards the end of your email
    campaign.

Sometimes you can afford to lose money on lead generation
if your back-end product is expensive, otherwise you better
at least try and break even.

Thanks for the replies. All users are opt in. I meant that I spend about $1 I'm advertising per opt in email submitted.

I believe guess you are paying little more for those contacts. We are an online firm and provide complete marketing solutions like email list, campaign etc as well.

The ROI mainly depends upon the success of your email campaign which in turn is depends upon various factors like the subject line, offers, time of campaign, type of campaign as well.

If you could provide me with your contacts details then I can send you a demo of how exactly our campaign platform works which would give you an idea of how much you can earn through your emails.
