Default "Add To Cart" Seems To Be The Latest Trend...

Is it just me or have you guys noticed that in many of the recent product launches, rather than having an "Order Now" or "Buy Now" button at the button, many people are now putting up an "Add To Cart" button... (and they all seem to be orange)

People used to say that a grey order button converts the best, now its an orange add to cart. Does it really convert that much better? (I haven't done any testing on this before)

That's exactly what people are doing.... they are testing it to see if it makes a difference. It's important to always be testing new ideas.

It all comes down to your own testing because of all the different variables. What works in one market won't necessarily work in another.

So it's not about the latest trend because all things in marketing are NOT equal. Just test and see what your results are.

Ryan Diess recently published a testing report where he claimed that "ad to cart" produced far higher conversion rates than other things he tested against.

Some of the increase in this use is likely due to his publication on the subject.

Knew it had something to do with a guru publicizing this info... still remember back then when Frank Kern told everybody the grey order button had the best conversion rate and everybody started using that on their website.

You would definitely want to check and test this for yourself.

The 'Add to Cart' button has been around for a long time as used by webstores that sell physical products to their customers.

These same customers have become conditioned over time to abandon the shopping cart with great regularity. The vast majority of 'Add to Cart' purchases never take place.

This conditioning has also led to the 'wish list' button because merchants know that up to 90% of all shopping carts are abandoned. So software that remembers the customers' desired products can sometimes resurrect dead purchases once the customer is reminded they had a previous interest in the product.

Bottom line...you need to test and track how YOUR market will respond to an 'Add to Cart' vs a 'Buy Now' vs an 'Order Now' button.

If you take some gurus word for it, and the real reason something worked for them was different than their perception of the result you gain nothing. In fact, you could actually lose ground.

Hi Mike,
I agree with you 110%.

I've been testing the "Add to Cart Button". It so easy for people to use
that it's performs better than a "OTO on Steroids"!

More people are familiar with adding things to their cart. Heck, they add
things to their carts nearly every time they enter a Grocery Store,
Wal-Mart, Meyers or Value City. Really, When you think hard about it,
It all boils down to just a few little things.

It's all revolves around Wants, Demographics and the Profitable Target
Market.

Hi Josh,
I would have to agree with the results he reported.

After testing this I found it to be Highly Addictive to many of the people
that purchased from the site. Each had the options to either,

A) "Buy Nothing,
B) "Buy Some Thing"
C) "Buy Many Things"

"C" worked out to be the Majority in the results out performing the OTO by 20%.

Same Traffic using a split test of over 1000 unique visitors.

Total Sales Revenue was low because of the Bait involved but the list is 350 strong.
So, looking at the limited data that I have available, I understand that the
value of each visitor was worth 37cents(US).

So, If I could just find a way to get even More Targeted Traffic to the
site. Say I get 10000 Targeted Visitors then Maybe if every thing pans out
I could pull in a extra $3,700. a month.

Sounds like a Plan! ;-)

Ha, cool Jason. When you drop in, you always drop a cherry bomb

And orange has been hip ever since blogger.com came on the scene.
It just took some marketer a few years to figure that out...but high end restaurants and clothing stores and the like have been using orange for awhile now.
It's a soft pleasing color.

I actually have created my own button, but I based that button off of information I learned from Perry Belcher.

I am now going to need to change all my buttons that I created to Belcher buttons :-)

Love it! LMAO!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Global Giving Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. I have friends in Japan, none of whom -- fortunately -- were affected. But lots of people are still doing it tough. So, thank you on their behalf.

The add to cart seems much less final and confrontational than Buy Now. Buy Now is like hand over the cash buddy while add to cart is more like the process of doing a purchase. I believe it is this important difference that makes more people likely to buy.

This is very intersting I'm going to try it.
I always thout BUY NOW was a bit too harsh but it's always what I saw everyone else doing it.
