.info/.com don't really matter in my unexpert opinion. But personally I don't like to click anything other than .com's everything else just seems cheap to me!

Maybe it is just my physch..

Get both and redirect the dot info to your dot com is a suggestion, or just build two sites and promote them both!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to add content and I don't think I will want to add the same article on both the websites, nor the spun article on one of them. And I have heard that domains solely created to redirect are not a good option.:confused::confused:

Domains that are used for a redirect are typically for a specific website. I redirect some domains to my affiliate links becuase they look better than the affiliate link themselves.

        Example: http://Www.1shoppingcart.com/jeffsaf...link/738349483
        Or http://Www.JeffsAffiliateLink.Com

        Get it.

    Hi Web Warrior,

There is nothing wrong with redirects. However, you are better going with the dot com because as long as it contains the keyword you primarily want to target, you will get the same results.

Thanks, that was helpful. Now I have a same situation with .com and .net for another keyword; exact name available in .net, for dot com I'll have to add a word. Should I go for .com or .net?

      Sorry, I respectfully disagree.

A domain that is an exact match of a keyword should naturally rank higher than a domain that merely contains a keyword. At least this is what I've noticed.

I would go with the dot com with an added word. Because dot infos are so cheap they are often associated with spammers.

I generally add an extra word to the back side of my keywords and get the dot coms.

As an exception to this rule, I will get .net or .org when I know I can beat out the .com that is there.

.info is being sold at the same price as .com.

I would recommend .com - more powerful and popular. .info are usually cheaper versions and can get at under a dollar at godaddy if you really want to get it. but why waste your time on on two websites when you can just focus on the .com and make it your main one.

I will like to focus on just one but can't decide which one. Some of you say dot com, others recommend dot info.

      Just MHO:

From the user experience perspective, people will naturally search for a .com name as opposed to .info, .net, ,org etc ....so strategically .com is better.

I was listening to an SEO expert and he stated as long as your keyword is the first word in your domain, com, net, info, even org will not change the effectiveness of the domain.

I saw his video called niche atms and was very impressed with his knowledge. He seems to be one of those OCD kids who has reverse engineered Google or so he claims but his video and info was impressive.

So this means that .info is not a bad bet. Thanks!

        Just get dotcom.

People tend to type in dotcom rather than dotnet or others.
imagine facebook as facebook.net or google.net.

The reason for avoiding .info is because many spammers dump the websites after a year, and they get .info because it is super cheap. You don't want to buy a .info that has been blacklisted.

Besides, why are you taking such a long time to decide on a domain name? Just buy one and get it done. Quickly set up your website and promote it.

I know because I bought 500 domains in 2 months.

Is cost stopping you from getting a dotcom?

the more you continue to decide the more your chances of someone else registering the name so I'd buy the .com and .info now. 'I should have' is already too late. Find a GD code and get it cheaper.

UPDATE: A big THANK to those who posted here. Even if it didn't directly help me, still made a difference.

I finally bought 4 .coms for 4 different niches and 1 .net for another niche. Sarah Tan, your post helped me, but I was thinking search engines at that moment and this moment also, thus 1 .net domain. No cost wasn't a problem as I had to buy only 5 domains.

There are various tools for finding available keyword related domain names. I have such tools myself. One of them finds expired domain names with keywords, the other finds available domain names that match keyword combinations.
