A question or two for those new to WordPress

I've been working with WP for quite a while now, and use it on a large proportion of the sites I set up for clients for their businesses.

I've noticed that even though I make sure I set sites up so that the owners can make changes themselves, and provide initial training along with a fairly decent user manual, either I or one of my team usually end up making their changes for them.

Now this is where I'm hoping I can get some input from people who are new to using WordPress.

Did you try WP out on one of the free WAMP servers to become familiar with it, or did you simply install it on your site using one of the autoinstallers your ISP provided and start playing with it?

If you tried the WAMP servers, did you find it easy to set up and use, or did you find even the thought of installing it daunting?

Did you persevere with the WAMP servers or did you give up and try installing and playing on your main web site?

The reason I ask is that I'm working on a new piece of software that I'm hoping will encourage people to try out WP on their machines before installing it 'for real', and I'd like to get some feedback from people who are new to it so I can make it as easy to use as possible.

So, if you're new to WP, would you mind taking a minute or two to give me your views on what you'd like to see in a package that would allow you to test WP out without having to install on a server or use one of the existing WAMP servers? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Will.
