CPA? What are the exact basics?

So, since ive started internet marketing which was about a month back, ive been interested in CPA. I understand, that you send traffic to a squeeze page(?) and when they sign up, you get paid, however why is this avenue so hard to get into? What I mean is, why are cpa networks difficult to partner with, I guess its because they want people that know what they are doing. So, how long does an interview call take, and what kind of information should I give them. Will CPA be around to stay? I heard somewhere that its a fad and it will die out, but seeing how this is the internet I highly doubt that. What makes it such a lucrative business opportunity? Thanks!

What makes CPA so lucrative? Where do I start....

First of all, because it is relatively easy to produce volume. Throw a bunch of money at PPC, and watch a bunch more roll in. Smaller profit margins, but hey, if you can spend $20,000 on PPC and make $25,000 - $30,000 it is still a pretty decent profit without doing too much actual work. If you see that a particular offer is making a particularly good profit, you can pretty easily throw all the traffic you have at it.

Second, making money by selling ebooks about how to make money is about as boring as it gets...unless they are your books and you actually make money...nough said.

Third, because it lets those of us with short attention spans focus on what we are good at without having to worry about the crap; ie, I can worry about getting traffic too something, not selling it or making a pretty site (although I do a lot of that too, outside of CPA).

You are going to want to have a website to show to the CPA networks. Doesn't matter what really, just something to say that you are going to be putting ads on. Get to know your affiliate manager, he/she can be your best friend, give you access to the best offers, arrange special pricing for you if you learn to produce volume, help you learn to produce volume, etc. CPA networks are not clickbank, you are not going to be selling crappy ebooks, they don't care what your name is or about your "list", at the end of the day, they want to see you produce and they don't want to waste time with non-producers...that is [partially] why you have to apply...that and so they can keep track of who is promoting their offers.
