The experience of your First Sale

There are a ton of new internet marketers on this site and I am one of them.

Right now I am gunning for my first sale and would love to hear some stories about Warrior's who have experienced their first sale and how long it took to get it and where they went from there.

These threads always get filled with tons of knowledge and motivation for us new guys/gals who have decided to get into Internet Marketing.

When we read about other Warriors and their first stages of success it helps us keep moving forward and also adds a ton of value to this forum.

My first sale was for a product I created, and it came from Adwords. It actually came from something like my tenth click, so I thought I'd hit the jackpot. But then I went on to get another 3,000 clicks before I hit sale #2!

I think it cost me about $600 to make $58, so not good business

I bet you learn a lot since that first sale. Whether its money or time, everyone has to invest something to get their first sale.

One key saying I have come across on the WF is focus on one idea at a time and take action, review results and then redevelop for future success.

      Thanks for sharing Alex.

My first sale? Selling a book on Amazon.com Marketplace. Someone I knew had told me about it, and I had often wondered about htose "Have one to sell?" notices near the "Add to cart" button, so I gave it a shot.

It was really cool when people from all over the world started buying my stuff. I even wrote an ebook about how to do it!

It also helped me part with my books (I'm a bit of a bookaholic) since my books were clearly going to people who wanted them.

I think Amazon.com Marketplace is a great way to get started -- it breaks right through that big barrier between zero bucks and making those first sales.

I was also REALLY excited when I sold my first ebook, years later. That didn't sell as well as I had hoped, although I am in the process of upgrading the offer and doing a new advertising campaign...

          Hi!,

Can you give me the name of that book and is it still available?

          Thanks,

    HA! here's one.

I bought an already established product and website about 6 months ago which was making around 5 sales a month (woohoo!) with a small 1% refund rate - my first sale....

    ..refunded. Typical.

Anyway, suffice to say I sold it on. Not because of the refund, but because of that 'impulse buy'..you know, people do it with ebooks and I just happened to do it with $500.

Money can't substitute hard work and pure passion.

Man. My first sale was years ago. At one point in my life I was as printer/copier service repairman and we had all the service manuals on PDF. I sold them on ebay for $4 each and sold about 5 a day. LOL I shipped them too, so end profit was like $15/day. Lunch money. That was fun times...

Its awesome to read all your stories and wonder how well you are now from those experiences.

Making that first buck, whether it was refunded back or not must have been a huge awakening that this crazy thing called the internet has some interesting pull on our possible futures.

Some call in Law of Attraction, others call it great ideas and concepts and others claim its just about giving it your all.... till you finally get what you want.

I believe its a little of all three, but mostly just not quitting because things didn't happen right away. I prefer things being hard at first, because once I can accomplish conquering one sale, then that feeling of accomplishment will support my drive to make another and another and another

You all have experienced success on any scale and now your sharing it with me...which only gives me strength that if you can do it, so can I.

      Thanks Warrior's

My first sale was with an affiliate product and like so many people in those days I was using PPC. Spent more money than I earned but it was a learning process. PPC can be deadly even though I had set a daily budget I decided to freeze all of my campaigns. It was not showing a profit. I get a better returns through CPA but again you have to be vigilant because I had one campaign that was withdrawn and I was still spending advertising money on it. I contacted the network to see why they hadn't advised me. I really did not get a satisfactory answer. Keep going it is great to see the email that says Congratulations!

      Great Outlook Sue

I'm looking forward to "it was a learning process" kind of results which I know probably sounds weird but honestly I am in it for the long haul.

Knowledge directly coming form an experience is worth every penny... if you keep moving forward.

Hey RoadBandit, my first sale was as an affiliate for someone else's product about 5 years ago.

I set up a simple squeeze page giving away a free e-book I'd written, maybe 30-40 pages or so on sales and marketing, to be honest looking back now it was nothing new but I put a lot of enthusiasm into it and my sales copy which led to people wanting to download it for free. I made the grave error of not re-directing my customers anywhere after they signed up, I didn't have a sales page and literally loaded up maybe 5 or 6 messages on to an autoresponder sequence and this was my entire business.

After around 20 people or signed up, one of them clicked through to one of my affiliate programs, signed up there for a free video and then this affiliate added him to an autoresponder and sold him FOR me ! Genius.

My subscriber bought a simple $30 package, then took and OTO and then proceeded to move further and further into this guys funnel eventually topping off a whopping $384 in my couple of months online.

You may become despondent at not selling anything for a while despite all the hours you've put into IM, but keep at it, eventually you will crack it and once you do, you'll be so absolutely sure that you can turn one sale into two sales that you will double your work, double your input and double your profits.

Eventually IM will become a way of life and you will understand the true beauty of automation and outsourcing in business.

Keep up the good work and keep your senses sharp pal, those first few dollars are just around the corner :-)

    Good Luck !

      What a great story!

This reminds me of one of mine -- not quite as spectacular, but also a late reaction...

When that Abs program came out with a German version, I thought, hey, I have a competitive advantage here, and did Adwords for the first time ever.

I set up a few squeeze pages and sent people to the product, but no sales

Turned out that abs related keywords were way more competitive in
      Germany than I had anticipated.

      Fast forward a year...

I discovered, in my Clickbank account, TWO sales for the product!

So I immediately checked my domains, which had expired just days ago, and renewed them before they were gone completely!

No additional sales... yet, but wasn't that cool!

I guess I'll add a bit more content to those sites and promote them more too, but not with Adwords.

Another affiliate product I had promoted quite a bit (no Adwords though) with no results finally yielded a sale too, so now I'm promoting it even more since it seems to be working...

So hang in there, and don't put all eggs in one basket either (had to add that remark, what with it being Easter this weekend).

  • My first sale (article writing package), was rather weird. I belong to a couple of the freelancing sites, and after placing my bids I was rather skeptical. Especially since my bids were far higher than the competing bids. I knew I had lots of writing experience but it was in current events, this was a whole new world for me. BUT, nonetheless I guess that first client figured that although my bid was the highest, there might be a reason behind it. So he hired me, I gave it my all, and delivered. He was so happy with the work that he is now an ongoing client and we do not even have to go through the freelance site. THAT was quite a confidence booster. There is nothing like the first date, first kiss, and of course first SALE. Oh yeah, now I'm on a roll!!!

I feel silly I have joined a few affiliate products but not really tried to market them yet as I have been working for about 2 weeks on "the plan" so today in the mail I got a $10 check from an affiliate. Um.........not bad since I guess now I can say I made my first dollar but honestly I am not even sure yet where it came from. This is a testament to knowing and keeping better records of what I have going on! lol.

Not yet I got it this afternoon and am working right now so going to try to do some digging tomorrow and see who it's from as the name on the check isn't anything I recognize. I was thinking though if I made $10 now that is definitely something to try to scale up. Honestly I joined a few things back at the end of Dec/beginning of Jan then my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and we started chemo immediately so a lot of those had to be put on hold. I am not really trying to make excuses life just changed a little and things are finally settling down now and we are getting into a routine so my time is free again to work on these things. So my first job I guess is finding who I got that $$ from!!

My first sale was a Clickbank product. That was just an individual sale. However, a few months later I started making a solid full time income online using PLR and MRR products. (I have even created a WSO explaining how I did it)

Actually, I think that the first sale is the hardest one. If you make your first sale, simply go ahead and keep working on your campaigns. Don't lose your focus and many other sales will come .

I don't really remember my first sale to be honest..... I do remember it was a clickbank product, and most likely a photography thing, but I don't recall exactly.

I do remember putting hours upon hours of time online and not making any money though.

I remember sitting at the mall by my house when I was too poor to afford internet just KNOWING that I could make this happen...

I remember refusing to get a part time job, because I knew that if i distracted myself at all, I'd lose my motivation and probably fail.

I remember losing my house to foreclosure because I couldn't pay my bills... but I kept trekking because I believed in what i was doing...

I remember having to find my dogs new homes because we had nowhere to live, and telling them that someday I'd make this work, and maybe even get them back..

I remember sitting in coffee shops for 15 hours at a time, trying to think of another way to make my online business work better...

I remember giving up, just once, and going out to get a job... and then realizing that there was no way working for the man 9-5 was going to be ok with me...

I remember quitting that job the next week..

And I remember how liberating it was to be able to turn my cell phone back on with the money that I had made from my online ventures.

Then I remember my first offline client (who is still a client, and good friend, today).

And I remember my first product that I created (that flopped, haha).

And then I remember feeling like what I had learned over the 2.5 years, despite all of my losses, was completely worth it.

Since then, I've never looked back. My life has completely changed from what it was 5 years ago. I'm not the most successful IMer out there... but what I have is mine, and what I've created is from my own sweat, blood, tears, and time. And I won't trade that for anything.

Sorry if I went a little off topic there..

My first sale...strangely enough came when I decided NOT to get a job

for years I've been getting a job to feed myself and stay afloat, but I decided one day enough was enough and that I was just going to focus on my first $100 day...

    soon it turned to $200...

    and so on.

All because I stopped getting a job, after having been through about 13 of them and staying focused on completing one thing through at a time.

But If I had to go all the way back in time, my first real dollar I think was made in IMReportCard (before they turned it into a point based system and decided not to pay any more). While I made a tiny bit of money with that...I knew it was a "gimmick" money-maker so I wasn't bothered one bit (nor surprised) when they stopped paying cash.

Lesson: stick with PROVEN long-term business models, not any of those gimmicks or "one-off" business models like some of the junk you see on facebook marketing, spamming twitter posing as a pretty girl to get clicks, or bulk email spamming...it will work temporarily, but it never last for longer than a few weeks to couple of months.

Article got approved friday, just checked clickbank and already made a sale from 3 hops - :-) love it

My first sale was with eBay's affiliate program. It was back in the day when eBay would pay you $25 if the person who clicked on your affiliate link signed up for an eBay account and made a bid on a listing (ah....the good old days).

It was back when eBay was on Commision Junction. I remember logging in just expecting to see $0.00 on my balance because that's what I was so used to seeing.

But I remember the feeling of seeing that $25 in my account........words can't express it. It makes you think WOW.....I can actually do this for a living!! I've never looked back since.
