Need Help Wordpress Password

Okay...I did the dumbest thing in the Universe! LOL

I was in the middle of building a wordpress site using a desktop installer, and it computer generated a password.

I usually go in and change the password in the user section...but I am still getting used to my new process, and I closed the browser window before changing the password.

What file can I access to either get the password or change it to a new one? Is it possible? or do I have to build the site all over again?

Sheesh!

thanks a ton in advance!
Karen

Did you try the "Lost your Password?" link on the admin login page (i.e. yoursite.com/wp-admin)? This will send the password to the e-mail address associated with the account.

These links may also be of use, they show how to edit the database to change the password:

    Good luck!

    Hi Karen,

try the password retrieval function. If that won't work, you may have to uninstall and then reinstall it. (unless someone here has a better idea).

And then be sure to keep track of your password...

    Good luck.

    Elisabeth

P.S.: I thought it might be retrievable from the wp-config file, but that would be really bad news actually since anyone in the know could probably find that file.

However, what IS useful about the config file -- if you have a bunch of different blogs installed, it will give you the database name, so if you have to delete or back up the blog, this can be helpful info.

You can always retrieve the password directly from the database if you control access to it.

Here is a useful link, the option that may interest you is the one about doing it through phpmyadmin:
