You Tube Rentals: Paying To Watch Content!!??

I just stumbled across something interesting on Youtube. It was video content from the Affiliate Summit and it was asking for $19.98 to have access to the content for 72 hours. Would you pay to watch content on You Tube? I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. I really wanted to watch those videos too but each one has a fee attached.

I'm I late or is this something new? Please someone school me on this one.

    What????

Haven't seen that myself. I will rush off to YouTube right now to see WTH is going on.

EDIT: Didn't notice anything myself. Where did you go or what video did you watch?

I ran across a video called "The Art of Keyword Blasting" and tried to watch and was confronted with a prompt asking me to upgrade and pay a fee. Type that in Youtube and you'll see it there.

        Whoa, Nzdealer

Thanks for the article link. This explains everything. Looks like this is a way to promote your content on Youtube and still have owners rights and get paid over and over again. From a business perspective, this is great, but from the buyer's perspective, it sucks, only 72 hours to watch the content before you have to pay again.

I'm interested to see how many people will start using it and making you pay to watch their content.

Not really, the buyer can just download it off YouTube after paying for their initial access.

Nonetheless, it's still another income stream. Considering the fact that YouTube has massive traffic each day, this might turn out to be a huge income opportunity.

    Never noticed anything like that.

Like what Michael said, I can't find any videos for the keyword.

Maybe someone can give us the link?

    EDIT

The rental is blocked from my country. I guess that's why I can't see it.

Well, I'll leave this question to the Warriors in the US to answer for me. I'm up late and was hoping some of you could answer my question. It's almost midnight my time. For sure when I wake up, there should be some responses then. Thanks guys. Wonder why they blocked Australia and Malaysia?

Probably because they're still in "Beta" phase.

If you provide quality content and something people want to see, they will pay for it. This puts a new spin on things if I'm understanding it correctly. Like you said, another money stream.

if this takes off, how long before we start hearing comments like "there's nothing good left to watch for free on youtube"?? 1 year, 2 years??

we will see... hopefully the scope of this is limited and the price lower. i can understand content like this that is footage from a live event. but if hte are going to try to offer movies, tv shows, documentaries, etc... they will have to do pretty good to beat netflix

from one point of view it could be the start to an awesome new income stream/product distribution channel but from another it could be the beginning of the end of a good thing.

google is usually very smart about things so i will give them the benifit of the doubt for now

This may catch on, but there are still going to be people out there that like to give info away for free.

About a year ago, I found a video that was very similar to the content I provide on one of my pay sites. The video was getting extremely good rankings w/ google (and still is). So I offered to buy the account from the guy for $10k - but he turned me down flat. He said that he hates it when people charge for info on the internet. It was very much his loss. Even if he himself could have put a link in the description, he'd have made close to 6 figures by now.

But anyway, I've run into several people like this on there since then. So I think that free info is safe, unless at some point youtube themselves start to charge for it.
