Have an idea for a website what do you think?

I made a website to make it easier for job seekers. It's targeted to my county which has roughly 1 million residents. The page has a list of cities with links to each of the major employment sites hotjobs,careerbuilder,craigslist etc.. All you do is find your city and click the link of the job site you want to view and the results show. The user doesn't have to type anything the job site loads with their selected city.

Anyway my plan is to get the site popular with lots of traffic then add my own employment site to the links and charge employers to post. Obviously i will do this after i get lots of traffic. I plan on marketing through facebook, craigslist and using seo.

I looked at the prices these employment sites are charging employers to post up to $500 an ad! I'll be happy with $100 an ad and only a few ads per day X 7 days a week is a nice income for me at least.

p.s. I know there is many job search engines out there but this technically isn't a search engine, it's more like a portal.

    I get it. It's kind of like stumble upon, wherein you can enter in a category and be taken to websites that relate to that category, only this is obviously very targeted.

    You may also want to try offering other services on the website alongside this, such as

    ---Resume building (you can offer a product, or have an outsourced team to do consultations)

    ---Interview tips and information (once again you can offer a product, an ebook, or a course, or anything really...even a set of videos!)

    ---Immigration information (for people looking to get jobs in the specified cities or countries, but are not currently living there, and even for people who do live there but need more information).

    You can also promote products which are already existing, but it's better if you developed these products as you went along, and then you can make money from that every time. AND< the more popular you get, the more people buy that product, and there you go!

    The service itself could be free, such as directing to all these websites, but the products on the other hand would not. Companies charge lots of money to build people resumes and cv's and cover letters....so if you could offer a product or a team to do that for them, for a cheaper cost (yet not costing you too much either), then you can definitely carve your way into this, in a manner that other businesses have not.

    You could have all kinds of things going on here. I have personally had a similar idea myself, which is why I am offering the ideas above, because it's definitely something I have thought about.

    I mean just think about it: jobs will always be in demand. There will always be people looking to be hired or to find work, whether temporary or permanent.

    It's also annoying to have to log into websites and whatnot, you should make your website interface, so that it will AUTOMATICALLY submit the resume to the places that you portal to. What I mean by this, is a lot of employers with monster and other websites will make you fill out a profile and portfolio, upload the cv/resume and cover letters....and that is annoying.

    Even then, some of the companies posting jobs on these websites, ask people to go to their website and submit, YET AGAIN. So this process is annoying, and you can solve that process by developing and auto-submission sort of thing, or even outsourcing a team to do this for clients, so that they can literally submit their resume/cv to all kinds of places, without a huge hassle....and my ideas can be done until you get employers to post.

    I have had the same idea for some time now just haven't had time to put it into an action. I even got a perfect domain name for it waiting to be developed. I can sell it for you

    Anyway, good luck with it an keep us posted.

    I have a website in the jobs niche. It makes $1,000+ per month. It's more of a career guide than a job portal. I make money from job seekers.

    What I found is that the jobs niche, especially if you're intending to build a portal, is very competitive and is mostly dominated by huge players.

    To get started, my advice to you is to build a content website where you generally talk about the job market in your country:
    * salaries in country
    * resume writing for country's job market
    * cost of living country
    * job types in demand in country
    * etc...

    Optimize your content for "jobs in country" keyword. Get paid blog reviews with that anchor text. Rank highly for the keyword. Once you start getting traffic from job seekers, when you post a job, it'll actually receive applications.

    Good luck.

  • I know that in the UK that this is a highly competitive niche to be in! I would do some background work before looking to dive into this because it could be risky!

    Give it a try and see. It sounds useful to me. All local job listings just a click away. Just remember to pump traffic to it using traditional Internet Marketing means. Just one question. Have you looked at internet usage stats for your country? How many people are online? If it is a high percentage, then go for it...

    I think important is really Action. Don't analyze until paralyze.

    Go ahead & implement it. Results will come. It is solely based on your business skill to make it happen. (not because of the ideas, there are too many great ideas but too little businessman with superb business skills to make them happen)

    I think that would be a pretty good niche and it would actually be helping people. I think if you put it together correctly, and actually make something that does help people get jobs, you will do well.

    If it were me, I would build something that is very informational.

    How to make a resume.
    How to get an interview
    How to figure out what your dream job would be ( and then you wouldn't actually be "working for money"
    Ex. Sit and think for a moment, what do you do in your free time for fun? Now, what field pays people to do that? Go find a job there.

    What Tools you need for which job. Tools, I don't mean a hammer. Tools, I mean what you need to know. That's a whole site in itself.

    Ex. If you want to be a dog walker, you would want to like outdoors, learn all of the different species of dogs, what they like, what they don't different dog treats that you can buy for next to nothing that are healthy for the dog ( you could sell the owner that you would be a healthy option for them ontop of just walking their dog. Learn how to teach basic commands, or how to get a dog to behave. Things like that. I have no experience with dogs, I'm just thinking off the top of my head.

    What to wear to an interview.
    How to act in an interview.
    How to answer interview questions.
    Maybe even offer something for schools to help put their kids intouch with employers.

    Employers would pay to be intouch with target people like that.

    First, the people applying would have thought about the job and not just be throwing out resume's

    2nd, people would probably come back to your site to find more info on what to do after their resume is done, got called for their 1st interview, going to their second interview, etc.

    AND, The biggest thing. You are offering a valuable service in today's economic times. It would be a WIN - WIN
