Requesting Permission To Use A Trademark In A Domain

There is a blog I'd like to start based around a particular product I'm passionate about. The problem is, it's a very well known product that is never really referred to as anything else. I thought that it may be worth requesting permission to use the trademarked name from the manufacturer.

Do you think it is worth it? Has anyone here ever done this?

No. It would be an interesting concept but I think they will not allow it. We have a trademarked brand and I certainly would not let any use that name in any shape or form. Why we would not allow it, because we have little or no control what that person would write or say. Contact them and post what they say. I will be interested.

I'd suggest using the product initials in some way, find a way to tie it to the product without using the product name.

Example: The popular forum ipodlounge.com had to change their url to ilounge.com

If your product was the Foreman Grill for instance, use fgrillblog.com, fgenthusiast.com, whatever.

Yeah I think I'm going to have to go with something like what TimGross said. Every keyword in the niche uses the product name, which sucks for domain options. I reckon going with the trademark option is just asking for trouble down the road somewhere so I'm probably going to avoid it...

    Cheers guys
