Best option for unused sites?

Hi all,
I have two domains that I purchased a few months back. My plan was that I would develop them and get something going, however, my new business (non internet related) is taking up all of my time.

One of the sites I wrote an ebook for, but have done no promotion for it (just put it on clickbank, that's it).

The other site is completely blank, but could possibly be a great site if someone took the time to work on it.

What would be my best bet for these sites? Sell them outright? I have no idea where to do that. Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.

You could flip it OR pay someone to get you some backlinks to it if you haven't done that already and see how those work towards getting more business on the ebook one. :-)

@djriel @steller - thanks! that was fast. I will check Flippa out! There are so many sites it is hard to know which ones are worthwhile...

I usually do one of two things:

If I'm being lazy, or will get started on my project within a few days, I use Adsense for domains. If you have an adsense account, then this is a quick and easy way to monetize a dormant domain. However, since traffic volumes are likely to be microscopic, you won't get much of a return.

If it will be a few weeks or months before I use the domain, then I throw up an auto blog and do some basic promotion. This is my preferred approach, since it invariably ensures that the domain gets indexed which will help when you eventually get around to using them for what you intended. WPRobot is my tool of choice for this, and the basic version is free.

I wouldn't generally sell domains unless I have proved to myself beyond all doubt that my plans for them will not succeed. If your site has traffic, then try split testing with different copy and/or offers. If your site has not traffic, then focus on getting traffic before you make a decision.

If you want to make a fast buck, you may be able to sell the eBook site on Filppa.com, particularly if you give up the rights to the product with the sale.

Have I missed the point? Everyone is recommending to flip the domain, yet there doesn't seem to be much to here to sell.

I'm not sure just how much a site with a single sales page and an ebook and a domain name with no content or traffic would get.

Yes, you can sell sites on Flippa and Sitepoint, but unless it has either traffic, revenue, or a significant amount of unique content you're unlikely to get more than a few bucks.
