How to go about doing this

I just sold my first website, but the buyer is in Nigeria. He emailed me saying that hes having problems with paypal at the moment, which is ok, however I did specify that payment was to go through paypal. What should I do now, is there another safe way to do this online transaction? This is all new to me

My advise would be don't transfer any of the files until you have received payment - don't fall for any sob-stories that seem to-good to be true. I'm not saying you're going to get scammed, but Nigeria does unfortunately have a bad reputation for web related scams.

Did you sell the site through a service like flippa or through another service like ebay etc? Look at the rating of the buyer on the service you are using and try to establish if they have been a reliable buyer in the past before you spend too much time getting payment from this person that may be bogus

Hope it works out for you

Here's what to do: LET HIM WIRE THE MONEY!

Bank-to-Bank transfer is still the best way to make sure the money is in the account and not in some online deposit like paypal who can still stiff you or getting chargebacked with a credit card.

      Bank Only!

People in Nigeria can't use PayPal (unless they're breaking PP's terms of service). So proceed carefully. You may also consider using escrow or some of the other safer solutions mentioned above.

Try moneybookers, they also have no refund policy, if you get the money sender can't reverse anything.

Ouch... Yes this is a red flag to me. Don't give him anything until you have received payment.

You have to be very careful.

Is the Nigerian a member of this forum?

Nigerians can use AlertPay. So, if he has an AlertPay account and you can receive your payment via AlertPay, go ahead.

I have been using AlertPay, no problems so far.

    But be extremely careful!

Paypal and Alertpay are safe. But I agree with badboy_nick. I have had chargebacks from paypal, and when you've already sent them what they purchased and calculated payment...it sucks! I have never had a problem with bank to bank transfers.
