I have screwed up with my site and need help please

7 replies
I decided to promote an affiliate product, bought my domain name and set up a hosted wordpress blog. After not being able to work out how to do an iframe on wordpress i deleted the blog from my domain and uploaded an iframed page of the sales letter using NVU ( the reason i am doing this is that i want to see if the sales page converts). The problem i am having is this, when i type in my domain name in quotes on google i get the following description underneath the website address.

domain name*. Change this text from the Settings panel ... Copyright © 2010 domain name*. Powered by WordPress and Social Theme by ...

* this is my actual domain name that shows up here

What i want to be able to do is have a description of the program that I am promoting. Any idea how i can do this.

I hope the above makes sense.

    Without seeing the domain etc, it sounds like Google has an old version of your page in it's cache, and that is the description from that page.

    Ensure that the current page on the main home of your site (probably index.html or .php) has the correct description you want inside the meta tags.

    You can find these between the "<head>" "</head>" parts of your page look for -
    <meta name="description" content="CONTENT HERE">

    Once you have updated this on your site, you need to get google to reindex your page. I would submit a sitemap to Google if you haven't already done so, and perhaps try some social bookmarking or submit the RSS feed for your site to some feed aggregators (such as feedage.com)

    I hope this helps

        James is right, all you need to do is fix your meta tags in the <head> section. A quick google search can probably help you with this.

        To submit a sitemap to Google you can sign up for their webmaster tools, verify your site, and submit your site map. Although just submitting a site map doesn't guarantee that they will come crawl it or index it, all it does is basically let Google know what links go where on your site.

    You will need a google account, then go to the webmasters tools site:

    I hope that helps
