contests as incentives

alright, I have this idea, but now I just have one question about it. See, I'm planning to use monthly contests as incentive for my customers. What I'm wondering is, is there anything I have to do, legal wise, to be able to do this, or can I just do it?

I need to know before I start doing any promotion that includes this.

      If you're thinking about a simple drawing or sweepstakes, there are a lot of hoops to jump through.

      If you want the contest to be for customers only,and you have a way to only inform them, it might be easier. But if the contest is available to the general public, and you require a purchase to enter, you're crossing over to lottery territory. Lots of hoops there...

      On a side note, consider what you are trying to accomplish with a contest. My wife is addicted to entering online contests and sweepstakes, and her eyes are firmly fixed on winning a prize rather than making a purchase. In this particular trait, at least, I don't think she's unique...

    What kind of Contest and what are you offering.
    If it's nude women or beer or somthing you can't talk about on here.
    Then it might be illegal...LOL

      well it would be a money drawing really. Kinda like a lottery. So I need to know the loops to go through and if it's worth it I guess.

    Wherever you live, you *really* need to look at your local laws regarding any kind of a contest. You could be heavily fined if you don't run them according to law.
