Well, what kind of business are you going to try using blogger for? If it is going to have ANY affiliate links, then you will need to use blogger if you are comparing to the hosted version of WordPress as they will not allow affiliate links. I really enjoy paying $5 a month for hosting and using the self hosted version at wordpress.org that way I can own my material and go by my own rules on what I can post. WordPress does not charge you anything to do this, you just have to have your own host. So, al in all...I say WordPress as Blogger still owns your information, and what if they also change the rules on you? |

Since blogger stopped their hosted program (you could make them deliver the content on your webserver, not just a domain pointed to their dns) I would advise you Wordpress if you are thinking on the long term. Take control of your content... |

I tend to use Blogger for affiliate type of blogs or supporting blogs. Wordpress.com doesn't allow aff links. However, most of my blogs are hosted on hostgator or hostmonster on inexpensive hosting accounts. Lots more flexibility! |

I use WordPress.com, WordPress.org and Blogger. They all have their (different) strengths and, used together, can create an effective online footprint. I wrote a more detailed review here: http://www.wealthydragon.com/blog/20...-or-wordpress/ Cheers, Martin. |

Hey Martin, You may want to update that 2008 post again (I know you did in 2009). In the last several days there were quite a number of threads around here regarding deleted blogger blogs... if they were created for the sole purpose of driving traffic to another site and similar reasons. Just saying... |

I went with self hosted wordpress after hearing of people losing all their info from having blogs shut down on them. I want control over my stuff. Get hosting with cpanel for cheap and you can install wordpress in 2 clicks Or 1 click, I forget. Mike |

Be careful of Blogger, I've been hearing of people being deleted a lot lately, and not all of them are breaking the rules. Don't put all your eggs in a basket that someone else is managing. Get a hostgator account for $10 a month and put your own wordpress blogs up. It will give you power and security you wouldn't otherwise have. |

Cost is no longer an issue for self-installed blogs on your domain. In fact, if you have many blogs and want to host them yourself and cannot afford buying a domain for each of them, you can use Wordpress MU (multi-user edition) on your main domain and then have each individual blog on a sub-domain/sub-directory.

Oh no.. don't use blogger unless you are creating back links. You will get your blog deleted, own your own content or have some other company own your content.

If you want to do it right, you should use wordpress on your personal hosted account. That way, you can control what you want on the blog and you don't need to be affraid that one day your blog is gone for some reason.

Not to beat a dead horse but I would use a self hosted WordPress blog for simply the reasons mentioned above that you control your own content. No one can take it away. That being said I would also use blogger and WordPress.com as feeder sites. I would put good content on them and update them once or twice a week and you will have a source of good backlinks. Hope that helps.

Bl.ogger is user friendly but it is scary to rely on blogger. I have hundreds of blogs in bl.ogger since 2007. They are still working fine now but I have 1 account shutdown by blogger with at least 10 or so blogs on that account that are giving me nice sales since 2007. The said account and the blogs are all gone for reasons I do not know. Since the e-mail I used for the account is g.mail the email account is also gone and I do not know what was the violation since my blogs are up since 2007. This scares me as my other accounts are all bl.oggers and I already wrote gazillion articles pointing to blo.ggers blogs. I started to learn Wordpress (though at the start it can be a real challenge since all I know is HTML and I have no other programming skills). I am a little bit discouraged about editing htaccess and changing permanent links BUT I am so happy yesterday bec I finally did it and now I am Happy and love Wordpress. I am starting to create Wordpress blogs now to replace blo.gger blogs and will not wait until blo.gger shutdown all of them and loose some sales again. Lesson learned. At Wordpress, you have more control and no worries.

If you have to choose, definitely use wordpress, and if you are able to, do it on your own server... get a hosting account and host your own blog, so you don't have to worry about your account being deleted in the chance that you offend one of the forums rules.. ie., wordpress and or blogger.... I have great hosting company that you can reach through my blog as well... Of course for more detailed information about what to do after you set up your blog or even if you need help setting it up there is a ton of other free information via the internet, and of course you can visit my blog via my signature, that has tons of verified and validated FREE information. Which would be an exceptional starting point for you, I am sure. |

Are you talking about Wordpress.com or Wordpress.org I don't prefer wordpress.com over blogger but if it's wordpress.org then I say there's not a single software on the planet today that can actually compete with it. |

Hi there, I love blogger blogs. There isn't an easier, more flexible blog out there. Trouble is google is picky about what, if anything you can do to make money on them. You can't just put clickbank ads on the front page of the blog. Google will flush you. You have to be careful about the links you use too. There is lots of rules of what you can and cannot link on a blogger blog. If you want to make money, (You are here so of course you do) It's best to set up your own site. It's easy. Take a look at 5gigs.net I'm not an affiliate, Just trying to help. |

Personally, I think you're spending too much time worrying about something of minuscule importance. In the time you're waiting to read all these replies about which platform you should use, you could have already had a blog set up, started driving traffic to it, and be making sales. When it comes to making decisions I recommend doing what Jason Fladlien teaches. The 60 second rule. Spend no more than 60 seconds making a decision. You can always make course corrections later on. The important thing is that you take some kind of action. |

I use both for two separate blogs. Both have features I like and dislike. Blogger's widgets are easier to udr, especially those that are imported from elsewhere. Wordpress looks better and I like the paged. I've used moveable type too, and I hate having to rebuild my pages. Both services have something to offer. I'm not going to bite the hand that feeds me. |

lol, Why limit yourself to Wordpress or Blogger for your free blog? Why not create your site on Squidoo, where there is less limitations to promotion? You can build a blogger blog and promote Amazon on it, using the partnership between the two companies. That is probably the safest route for the free blog. Use Wordpress.com to build additional content and links pointing to your money blogs. (Also, since you are wanting FREE, using Wordpress.com will allow you to start learning the Wordpress control panel, preparing for moving to your own hosting.) Move to your own hosting as fast as humanly possible. While BUM Marketing using free methods is a great way to start, it is also a fast way to lose all your sites. Proceed with caution. |

HI, IF U REALLY MEAN BUSINESS THEN GO FOR PAID WORDPRESS AS YOU MAY NOT BE SERIOUS WITH USING FREE BLOGGER & NOTE BLOGGER OWES U NO OBLIGATION SINCE U'RE THE FREE SERVICE BUT FOR SMALL START U CAN USE IT. AFTER CONSIDER MIGRATING TO PAID VERSION. |

My 12YO got a free WP blog in 1st position for a KW she was after in cat niche, only to see it killed - probably by a mad competitor or the supply site she kicked off the page... So, yeah, free web 2.0 properties come with no guarantees.... you need to build faster than they take down, or get your own sites up, hosted and SEO them for the first 3-6 months

Whoo lots of replies! Blogger.com is great. It has changed so much recently, loads and loads of free blogger templates, tons of widgets, Google has in the last few days put masses more templates on. You cannot use Wordress.com for affiliates, Wordpress.org needs hosting - blogger is easy, free, free templates, if you want a quick, easy, free, selling money making affiliate site.

I like to use Wordpress.org because it gives the option of using PLUGINS and a great PLUGIN to use is onlywire this allows you to post to multiple sites with the press of one button...very handy to get your content in many places at the same time. Ark

This may be a little off topic and if so I apologise but I have a question about blogging. Is it true that you have to have a paid domain and blog to make money? I have been told that the search engine penalise free blogs giving preferrence to paid hosting and private domain names. |

It took me a while to figure it out but somewhere I read a thread here and figured it out... Here are the steps I did: 1. At your Wordpress Dashboard- Settings-Permanent links choose in the Common Setting the "Day and Time" option 2. At the bottom you will see codes like this: (I just change the name of my website with "yourwebsite" <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /yourwebsite/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /yourwebsite/index.php [L] </IfModule> 3. Copy the codes and paste it to Notepad. Save it with any file name you want ( but do not use the filename .htaccess) 4. Go to your FTP Server (In my case I use FTP Commander). Click the public_html folder and you will see the .htaccess file there. Copy the file to your C: drive or anywhere in your PC to have a back up copy just in case anything bad happened, you still have the original .htaccess. (NOTE: I wonder but my original .htacess size is "0" meaning it is empty but I still back it up and copy it on my C: drive just to make sure. Who knows anything can happen at least I have a copy of the original file. 5. Then transfer or copy the notepad file you saved earlier with the pasted codes ( Stated in Step 3 above) to your FTP server and rename it as .htaccess to overwrite the original .htaccess 6. Check your wordpress permanent links and it should work because it worked for me. Also check your other websites on public_html folder if they are working fine. 7. If something goes wrong you can always restore the .htaccess file you copied to your c:/drive back to your FTP server Hope this will work for you. Raquel

If you're putting up a free blog, I'd use blogger.com as it is owned by Google and will rank higher... But why would you want to put up a freebie? All the search engines favor distinct domains... Bite the bullet and get your own domain and web host... and then, I would use WordPress as the platform as it is much more flexible and has great plugins that you can use... |

You've hear the line, "If I could do it over again . . ."? Well, if I could start my blog again, I would DEFINATELY go with my own hosting account and WordPress. In 2007 I was flat broke. I was new to IM and decided to start a blog. Since I had no money, I used the free WordPress option. It was great for the intro and it was FREE! The problem is that the FREE WordPress has many restrictions that are not present with the hosted version. Today, my niche marketing provides my full-time income. My free blog has had more than 2.5 million hits . . . and I rank #1 on Google for this niche keyword. That's all very good. But I still have to live with the restrictions requiring me to direct people to my hosted site . . . and all other work-arounds. I have been advised to not change my blog to my hosted account since I have such great Google "real estate." So, I am stuck with the situation. So, if I had to do it over again, I would scrape together enough money to buy hosting and upload WordPress on to my account. I hope this helps! |
| SusanUSA Believe me! If I can do it, so can you! How a grandma made $12k+ in 5 weeks on her first IM offer spending less than $100! | |

Here's my take on it. First choice is the self hosted version of WordPress (Wordpress.org), second would be the hosted WP blog on WordPress.com, and third would be a blogger blog. |
