I am getting requests to place ads on my sites lately

I've recently started getting offers from companies about placing text ads or banner ads on 3 different sites. One offered $60 per year for a text ad. Is this something a lot of people do? It doesn't seem like much money, but I have no idea what the going rates are. The sites get anywhere from 3000 to 8,000 or so visitors per month. Two are blogs and one is a static site. I was not considering placing other people's ads but just wondering if this is something to consider and if so, how much do people usually get paid for them? Right now they are monetized with Adsense, affiliate products, and my own products.

The standard price depends on the site's rankings.

If you are attracting companies with your sites, that's a good thing!

As thunderbird mentioned the price does depend on your rankings.

Yes I guess that is true!

That does make sense, I was thinking of traffic but I guess they are looking at rankings. Well I will have to think about it. I thought these were spam mails at first, lol.

That is a good sign. Personally, I would continue to build up my site and charge more.

  • As deezy said, the fact that these companies want to advertise on your site is a good thing. You just have to weigh all of the options, negotiate, do not just accept the first price they offer, after all they are the ones that want to be on your site. This is pretty much a matter of choice. Do you really want to have ads on your site? Or are you willing to let him get traffic from your site, obviously for a price. If you do decide to go with the deal, make sure you save ALL of the emails you exchange in the negotiation. You never know if you would need them in the future.

$10 or more per link (not even a banner) per month for PR2 or above on home page is pretty standard in my experience. Certain niches attract these offers more than others. There is often a strong interest in anchor text.

People (companies) have contacted me for ads too, for a site I haven't done anything with for over two years. Hmmm.

I get offers like that every few weeks. One company started out offering me $60 a year and I turned them down. They kept coming back, but finally gave up when I turned down $180 a year. The lesson is...

    ...prices are negotiable.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.
